1. Dead man walking. And just called Bush an ass-hole as well as
cursing him out for what he did to Aristide.

Walking. Hugo my friend, watch your back.

5. Col. Chavez
Will remain master of the situation in Venezuela, now and for the foreseeable future. He has the support of the great mass of the people, and of the rank and file of the armed forces. These are the critical factors, and there is not much that can be achieved by covert operations against them.

10. There Will Not Be An Invasion Of Venezuela, Ma'am
Rather too much on the plate just now for such an undertaking: the armed forces are much too busied being shot over in Mesopotamia, which takes up a lot of men and equipment....

11. yes but there is a lot of money
in the anti-chavez forces in Venezuela. Give them a few arms and some more money and they may be succesful in their next coup attempt.

14. They have tried twice, at least, already.
The element of surprise is gone, if it was ever there, and there
is no reason to think the CIA has gotten smarter or Chavez dumber
in the meantime. Oil production is back, unemployment is down,
the economy is growing. It is no accident that Chavez is feeling
feisty.

16. A Few Arms, Mr. Morgan
Will not suffuce against the rank and file of a loyal national army. It is important to preserve a sense of scale about these things....

Hugo is no fool, although I am surprised he chose to
express himself so "vigorously".

22. Junior doesn't have much of a history of picking on the strong, does he?
They've already tried two coups, and you know that gets his evil little vengefulness all aboil, but this guy's no pushover.

If he really had some sense, he'd shut off the oil right now and topple Junior. Why not?

What with OPEC's 10% reduction in output, this could be a nightmare.

7. Chavez is more alive than Bush could ever be.
Easy to be fatalistic, and I often am, but I don't want to give into it tonight.

Tonight, Chavez lives and governs, and that's cause for hope. Bush? He's dead inside.

That speech he just gave was very welcome!

I think they tried Haiti because they failed in Venezuela. Chavez is secure for the moment.

24. I hope you're right.
I do think perhaps he's being very clever in drawing attention to
Venezuela, so the world will be aware of what's going on.

But Cuba's awfully close to Haiti - good place to station American
troops, just in case there's any trouble from Castro, you know.

20. Not necessarily.
The CIA (or big business interests, to be precise), isn't unstoppable. In fact, they fuck up all the time.

If Chavez maintains vigorous popular support, he could be just fine. Our assholes will definitely keep trying undermine Venezuela, though.
