1. Yep
Haiti is a good launching point for "regime change" in Cuba, and Venezuela has some of the largest oil reserves in the world. Of course they're on The List.

3. Any country with natural resources, economic or military power...
is a target of the PNAC agenda. In other words, PNAC is about keeping the whole world under America's thumb.

all of Central & South America is in the sights of the same tendences at work.

I suspect that Aristide is being made an example of for two reasons:--as a bloody demonstration to the rest of the hemisphere that back on their knees is the proper and expected position, and a petty display of frustration as a result of the somewhat recent impotence in the face of spreading popular resistance and the 'wrong' people being selfishly elected in the properties traditionally owned and run by US businesses and their local agents. Since its birth, Haiti has tradionally been the target of joint aggressions from the western world's dominant imperialist tendencies; now, no different.

9. um..
Regardless of how briliant and humble I may come off here :), I'm not naturally witty when it comes to thinking up screen-names, email addys, webpage titles, etc.. so I usually just go by whatever I'm reading or listening to at the time.

When I signed up for DU, I was reading a book on Greek gods. When starting the blog, I was re-reading Huxley's Brave New World while listening to Opeth's Black Rose Immortal.

12. Indeed -- it was also sort of a 'couple's therapy' for US and France...
...to show that when the 'enemy' is dark, 'The West' will unite against it.

Sends a clear message to Latin America that they shouldn't expect help from Europe (Iraq disagreements with the US notwithstanding), so they better follow orders (from the US).

It also gets France out of paying back the reparations money that they forced Haiti to pay them for becoming independent as well. Aristide was after that for Haiti.

11. Tom DeLay on Cuba
For ninety miles off our shores is an island prison, a hub of international terror, and a founding partner of the Axis of Evil.
No corruption or vile oppression that exists today in Iran or the Palestinian Authority did not first exist in Castro's Cuba.
No terrorist who plots today the murder of innocents could outdo the grisly efficiency of Che Guevara.
And no despot who seeks today to shackle man's will to freedom has yet surpassed the brutality, cowardice, and greed of Fidel Castro.
No, ladies and gentlemen, tyranny and terror are not only found on the other side of the world.
And if the war on terror is going to be won, it must be won in this hemisphere first, and if it is going to be won in this hemisphere, then Castro must go!

This speech leads on both http://tomdelay.house.gov and http://www.majorityleader.gov
It may be the ultimate expression of Neo Con ideology.

"... this same evil that produced Hitler, Stalin, and Mao also produced Saddam… and bin Laden… and Arafat… and Castro."

"The Bush Doctrine says to the world that if it's true that when one man is enslaved, no man can be truly free"
