Cuban Democrat Check-In
Edited on Sun Mar-07-04 12:06 PM by WillyBrandt
Any other Cuban-Americans sick of being stereotyped by folks--and especially by "tolerant" liberals--as domino-playing right wing nuts?

Check-In!

And bring some cafe con leche, with some white-bread ready for dipping!

3. A grand majority of Cuban-Americans
Edited on Sun Mar-07-04 12:39 PM by higher class
still despise JFK with their total being, refuse to acknowledge that one dictator replaced another, that they were indeed refugess at one time, but were not after the Berlin Wall fell, have refused to acknowledge the changes Castro has allowed, refuse to believe the statistics coming from Amnesty Intl, and would replace their two rabid representatives in the U.S. Congress with two just exactly like them, think nothing of making money off government programs and pay-offs. Those in that majority will continue to allow the CANF and other organizations to rule our country and they are chomping at the bits to regain the ranches and property that many of them never had.

So how many are in the majority and how large is the minority? And what is being done to get the minority voice out on the media. The only voice I remember on national news was the man who spoke up in favor of sending Elian back to his father. How many did he represent?

I love Cubans, their industriousness, their love of fun and family, I despise the politics of the majority and I'd love to hear more from the minority.

So don't be sick - tell us what you would do to change the stereotype and what we should know to change our opionion?

4. How do *I* change the stereotype?
Edited on Sun Mar-07-04 12:43 PM by WillyBrandt
Thanks for proving my point exactly. I'm offended by the nonsense you just put up.

Would you post a similar riff about Puerto Ricans, say?

And we Cuban-Americans love being patronized to:

"I love Cubans, their industriousness, their love of fun and family, I despise the politics of the majority and I'd love to hear more from the minority."

Thanks for telilng us what our identity is like. It's always helpful. My black friends similarly like it when I tell them how it is to be black...

18. I'd never post a message like this about the Puerto Ricans...because...
they have never held the U.S. hostage (with or without the help of Dem and Repub congresspeople).

7. The minority & press have muted out the majority
Edited on Sun Mar-07-04 12:58 PM by Mika
"I despise the politics of the majority and I'd love to hear more from the minority. "

The politics of the majority of the Cuban-American community, as well as the overall majority opinion of the US population regarding US/Cuba relations, is just what has been silenced (again) by the 'librul' media.

11. There's a big difference between being anti-Communist and being RW.
FDR, HST, JFK, LBJ, et al, were all anti-Communists, but they were hardly RWers. :)

13. Or you can be pro Cuba. Period
Here's a unique idea..

How about letting the Cuban people IN Cuba work out their own problems, without outside interferences (like US sanctions, terra, threats, and support for coupsters, etc).

15. If the Cubans and Israel want to end...
the mess in their country after 40 plus years, they should open their eyes and see that politicians have used their grief and emotions to NEVER END the problems of those countries. If politicians solve the problems in those countries, they would have no issues to run on. That is why during the 2000 elections, the republicans sabotaged the Israel/Palestine peace agreement. They wanted it again as a campaign issue. The bushie guy, today has been using the Cuban problem to his advantage. Wakeup, for years politicians have been milking your problems the way little man bush has been milking 911 and terra. Bush, the master milker.

You never gain anything by ignoring the problems. To get rid of Castro, you must engage him. Sending troops to kill Castro will also kill many innocent Cubans. Mainly, children, women, and your future; the youth.

Who the hell are we to get rid of Castro? By what right? The Cuban people will change leadership - their way, not our way. Both the supporters of President Castro and the legitimate domestic opposition all have said so, and the opposition doesn't want to be tainted by American "support". Further empowerment of the Cuban people will come of their own doings, not the USA's.

20. We have become a nation that used to be promoted as a democracy.
We then became a country where it was obvious that the democracy only applied to certain people here, but we exported democarcy by inviting other countries to take our payola which gave them the right to say they would convert to democracy.

Now, we are imperialists and missionaries of the worst kind. We impose our will on the world.

Cuba is close. Cuba is small. Cuba is a sovereign nation.

We have no right to impose ourselves there, in Haiti, in Iraq, in Guatemala, in Chile, in Afghanistan, in the Philippines - none of these places.

Why not just aim that new weapon at them and make them so misearble that they jump into the sea on the south side with Castro leading them and see if they make it to some land. That will clear the way for the Cuban-Americans who just can't wait to re-claim 'their' ranches and property and let the mafia back in and get the night life and gambling going again so that the tourists can come back and we can ship in the new cars and put anyone who survived the new weapon to work in the new factories and backrooms.

The not new, but revved up imperialism of the U.S. disgusts me. We walk all over people.
