Qestion Re: California Recall Election - specifics...
Hi everyone,

Does anyone know if the recall election will allow a person to vote "NO" for recal but still vote for a candidate should the Governor be recalled?

We recently had a local recall election and you had to either vote NO on recall *OR* for the other candidate. You couldn't do both.

1. You can vote on both
You can vote NO and still vote for the replacement.

2. confirmed, you can do both in CA...
...thus opposing the recall but covering your butt just in case, which is a damn good strategy for democrats because I doubt that Davis's career will survive the first ballot question.

3. Yes, you can do both
In fact, AFAIK California law allows the two questions - recall and replacement - to be conducted on two different days.

That said, the natural order for most people is for the recall to precede the replacement. If the two elections were on two different days, then that is what would happen. However, it's more democratic to have the replacement precede the recall; the replacement vote is hypothetical so whether the official is actually recalled or not doesn't have any effect on anyone's decision, whereas the recall is not, and it sometimes matters who the replacement is. If the first vote is the replacement and Arianna wins, and only afterward is there a recall, then I'll definitely vote yes, whereas if the replacement winner is, say, Issa, then I'll vote no. Currently, I can only estimate based on polls whether the replacement will be better than Davis.
