Thompson:memo “didn’t call for anything to be done" by Bush
Republican commissioner James R. Thompson, a former Illinois governor, said the memo “didn’t call for anything to be done" by Bush.

this is a quote taken from
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4700899/

WHY WOULD THE MEMO HAVE TO TELL HIM TO DO SOMETHING? AREN'T THE REPUGS ALL ABOUT TAKING ACTION, BEING PROACTIVE, AND ASSIGNING RESPONSIBILITY WHERE IT RESIDES? THE INTELLIGENCE COMMUNITY CANNOT TELL THE PRESIDENT WHAT TO DO!!!!!!!!!

1. Can we go any lower than this?
"didn't call for anything to be done"

What is next?

"Bush was appointed by Scalia, Gore won the popular vote. Why didn't GORE do something about this in August '01? HUH? HUH? Whacha think about that you liberal commie subhuman traitor? "

This is all so surreal.

2. Reminds me of Hannity's excuse for not serving...
...in the Gulf War. Why didn't you serve, Sean?

Sean - "Nobody asked me to."

Thompson is the most partisan Republican on the commission. He's literally a mouthpiece of Karl Rove. The others are closer to the center, even if they haven't been while serving. It's okay for Thompson to be partisan, because 'he's from the midwest'. Yep, a real country bumpkin in the big, big, city.

3. Did they get any memos telling them to invade Iraq?
From someone credible, I mean -- Perle doesn't count.

If the low and mid-level memo-writers at the CIA had known that THEY were actually in charge of National Security Policy, perhaps they would have taken advantage of this unprecedented distribution of executive decision-making power...

8. here's the proper response
Iraq was attacked with the full power of the U.S. military on concocted "evidence" and deceit. If it is true that the U.S. cannot act without someone pointing out the where, when, and why, then WHO was it that ordered troops to battle in Iraq without valid "actionable intelligence"?

They can't have this both ways.

Make them eat this contradiction.

11. how DARE you question the great Jim Thompson?
he's such a fine fine antique collector

especially well groomed for a mere midwesterner, as he so pathetically tried to excuse his tripping over his tiny little, blubber-enshrouded peen, after embarrassing himself in front of the nation with Richard Clarke

14. Now I Remember What A Real Weasel He Was...
It's been years and tons of GOOP state scandals, but I remember Thompson running on how the state budget was sound and all was good while Adlai Stevenson said different...Thompson wins on his rosy Ragygunomics crap, then no sooner are the ballots counted then he cries how really poor things have turned out to be and pushed through the biggest tax increase in state history.

Bumpkin, my ass...he's a senior partner for Winston & Strawn...the same law firm that hired Ken Starr and a ton of other PNAC and Right Wing assholes.

BTW...weren't there questions about which side of the tracks he really lived on? LOL

Cheers!

12. the lower-level employees expected bush* to DO SOMETHING

all this crap from condi and now from bush*...that one of their employees, way down below them, should be telling condi and bush* what to do...bush* just doesn't yet understand the job of President of the United States of America and Commander-in-Chief...the job requires that bush* is the ONE....the person who actually tells others what to do....dear shrub, it's not that others tell you what to do...it's more that YOU tell others what to do....

it's just gross failure of bush* and sidekick token condi....

21. that's because he's a bush stooge
wasn't thompson one of the two commish members who rec'd a phone call from the white house right before Clarke testified? And he confronted Clarke with the background briefing material that was conveniently provided by the white house?

should we be surprised by anything he says?

be gentle...i'm a virgin.

24. When I look at my thermometer it doesn't tell me to put on a coat
Edited on Sun Apr-11-04 03:20 PM by RapidCreek
when it reads 0 degrees or to wear shorts when it reads 99.

If I'm travelling in my car at 90 miles an hour and I pass a sign which sais "speed limit 45" that sign doesn't tell me to slow down.

If I buy a pair of underwear there aren't instructions included which tell me putting them on head first won't work.

If someone tells me my fly is down, they don't generally take the time to give detailed instructions on how I might resolve the problem.

etc. etc. etc.

26. last night CNN gave him tons of time to say the same crap
without any sort of opposing viewpoint.

It's like CNN was trying to put the whole thing to rest.

Thompson was the guy, who, when Clarke was testifying, got REAMED big time by Clarke. Clarke called him 100% on his partisan bullshit.

27. What he could have done at the very least
Is let people KNOW about the threat and then all the people who died in the second tower because they thought the first plane was an accident and that it was safe to stay would have lived. Because they would have known it was a terrorist attack and left the building immediately.
