What if Kerry chose someone like Robert Redford for VP?
Edited on Wed Apr-21-04 11:16 AM by Bandit
Someone completly devoid of political connections but a vocal progressive who was a huge star. Or maybe Barbara Streisand? Maybe Martin Sheen. Would that be a smart move on his part or would everyone demand someone with real political experience. I have this funny feeling that Kerry is going to pick someone really "out of the box" and surprize everyone. How important is Political experience in choosing a VP. It wasn't important to California when they picked their governor and that is a very close step to the Presidency.

1. Won't happen but someone like Redford or Beaty would be an ideal
from what Hollywood has to offer.

MMM, Robert Redford, that man is still so yumming to look at.

2. Barbra Streisand???
Miserable, miserable lady and horrible choice. Though certainly picking a "name" or a known face would appeal to the majority of Americans who, as we saw in CA, don't vote for qualifications so much as they vote for aesthetics/fame/money, etc.

Interesting idea.

4. Celebrity VP?
Not Barbra Streisand. PLEASE!!

I don't have anything particularly against (or for, for that matter) Streisand, but she has a TERRIBLE reputation for sticking her nose into politics, and though it doesn't bother me, a lot of Americans don't seem to like it.

I think we do need someone with something of a clue about government. My preference. I don't like the idea of an actor (who doesn't even have the experience of having been gov of CA) being a heartbeat away from the Presidency.

5. "but she has a TERRIBLE reputation for sticking her nose into politics,
So one who "sticks their nose into politics" shouldn't run for political office?

6. Streisand's TOO neurotic...
Edited on Wed Apr-21-04 11:30 AM by Tellurian
Barbra would insist Bush and Cheney be incarserated in a pure white jail cell flanked by a looped video of Clinton endlessly repeating..."They Hate me because, I WON!"...

7. would never happen...
Would serve no purpose... Redford will certainly campaign for him - they've appeared together before and they have a mutual admiration. I agree about the yummy factor...know a few people who've met him and he's as charming as can be they say...(warmest handshake you'll ever have...)

Edwards would provide the yummy factor along with southern appeal...I hope it's him...

8. We would lose a minimum of 40 states.
Not a good idea, especially with the stakes this high.

10. I saw a Brokaw for VP article once
That made a little bit of sense.

Are there any liberal and/or Democratic celebrities that have intelligence, wisdom and some gravitas about them? Paul Newman may be too old by now (I remember Dems in CT wanting to draft Newman to run against Lowell Weicker back in the 80s...) George Clooney may be a bit young, but he does seem smart, intense and tough-minded. Redford has too much of a pretty boy past for me.

12. Redford is too old - let's go with Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, the guy from
that 70's show or the guys from American Pie... or the guy who lives across the street from me - soo cute! Not famous - but cute !
