3. "5'11" in a 10-foot pool" --- another great line posted today...
from Newsweek's "Conventional Wisdom." They gave Bush a down arrow; he's in over his head.

4. This is also why many people are impatient with 'centrists.'
I saw a thread recently asking why lefties were so harsh with centrists or something to that effect.

Being told to keep your voice down when you're screaming FIRE can really piss you off and make you impatient with people who don't invest the time to read up (like W doesn't) and see that fascism is rising up past our knees and we better do something about it.

The planet is headed for disaster and folks are still watching sports and 'Friends' re-runs. Fuck.

6. Arianna
Huffington is on the Daily Show tonight. She should get a better reception than the one from Bill O fucking Reilly earlier this week.

8. This is also why many people are impatient with the far left
who think getting the perfect candidate is more important than defeating Bush*. Putting out the fire is "not enough of a difference" unless we also redecorate.

It's hard to report a fire when a far lefty is screaming "WE MUST REDECORATE NOW!!" and it can really piss you off and make you impatient with leftists who don't invest the time to read up (like W doesn't) and see that fascism is rising up past our knees and we better do something about it.

24. Problem is, pissing on a fire does nothing to put it out
It's purely cosmetic.

When there's a fire, you need to put it out, not piss in the wind.

27. Would you say the same thing if slavery was the issue
that the far left was obsessed with? You know you could actually side with the left. Why do you think howard dean was so popular, for a change we felt like the party could appreciate us and lo and behold, they sent a majority striaght to nader, or to apathy. Remember people on the left tend to be a lot more intellectual so we don't buy the just vote because line... Remember Kerry is just as pro israel as bush, whih is just as disasterous

10. Screaming for the redecorator
Is what is pissing everybody off. And, you know, don't presume everybody who is angry at the far left is a centrist. It's just that it's not the TIME for ideological rantings. It's time to PUT OUT THE FIRE!!! Get Bush OUT so that we'll still have a house to redecorate. And I'll be right there beside you making sure the house is one we can all live in, AFTER the fire is out!

11. The time to redecorate is the primaries . . .
. . .whichever primaries are still in play on the congressional level, redecorate your ass off. Since Illinois has already had its primary I will be redecorating (if necessary) in March of 2006!

12. NC here, and we don't have our Primary til July 20th! I can Redecorate!
And we are doing that with grassroots efforts here. I don't think I'd call that redecorating it's more like "restoring the foundation."

13. However when one is redecorating. . .
. . .you should keep in mind if your improvements will add value when you go to the open market.

14. I had a housefire, denial is part of it
The fire had spread on the kitchen floor. I put blankets and sofa cushions over it. I thought I had the fire out. My family was screaming for me to get out. While I was trying to put that area out, it had spread to the kitchen cabinets and to the rooms behind the kitchen. Where I couldn't see it.

Redecorating is all done. It's time to get out of the house and PUT OUT THE FIRE!!

20. Bush isn't the fire
He is the accelerant. Getting the accelerant out after the fire is roaring isn't the first option fire fighters go for.

5. Hey! She stole my line!
I commented (I think here at DU) that Condi's testimony was akin to ignoring that your house was aflame because you hadn't yet addressed existing problems like bad plumbing and old wiring.

I'd be mad...if Arianna wasn't so damned sexy...

15. Like she did last summer in California when she supported the recall?
She was Nader then!
I heard her line a few days ago - she said it on one of the morning shows (unfiltered). Good, but no credibility.

18. Would you put that fire out with gasoline?
that's how some of here feel about Kerry. With his vote for the illegal war, his refusal to assert that he will immediately withdraw all of our troops from this occupation if elected president, his refusal to take a firm, progressive stand in favor of gay marriage, and his recent comments about Israel and the "roadmap", how would Kerry help putting out any fires.

I'm just more frustrated that anything else. Every four years we play the same game-- quiet down, play nice, be moderate, and move a little closer to the center because, if we don't, that evil bastard (Fill in name of Repug candidate) might win!!!! What has this gotten us? TWO Democrats in the White House since 1968?!

Why fix something that isn't broken?

25. Add me to the list
of people who thought they thought of the metaphor first!

My version was: When your house is on fire, and there is only ONE firefighter on the scene who can put it out, you don't send him away because you don't like the color of his hose.

(Nader can't put the fire out! Only Kerry can!)

pissing on the fire.

That'll help a lot.
