Koppel *SLAMS* Bush on "coffin" issue

Ted's closing thought tonight was a beautiful, particularly strong uppercut to Bush's cowardly chin....

"There is nothing inherently wrong with showing the American public pictures of our war dead coming home. It's the context... HOW those pictures are used... that's important.

"Sometimes, even the people who make the rules miss the point.

"There's certainly nothing wrong, for example, about showing the picture of a dead, New York fireman being carried up from Ground Zero on a flag-draped stretcher... unless, of course, you put that picture... in a political campaign ad."

(...silence... as that scene from the ad is played, followed by the endorsement, spoken by *: "I'm George W Bush, and I approve this message.")

20. There's only so much that the mainstream media can do for Bush

despite the favorable legislation and tax breaks that their parent companies received. They realize that even the sheeple will start tuning out if the mainstream media begin to look as non-credible and non-competent as Bush does. And if Kerry wins, his wrath may result in media conglomerate "reforms."

P.S. Remember when Peter Jennings asked Wes Clark if Kerry should be supporting someone (Michael Moore) who would call Bush a deserter, a "reckless" accusation that was "not supported by the facts"? Overnight, the whispers about AWOL became a mainstream media headline! Mission accomplished--NOT, Karl Rove!

Throughout this whole day, as I've been pointing friends to the gallery of coffin images and discussing it with them and going over it myself, my anger just increases. The cynicism of this administration knows no bounds. I'm glad Nightline highlighted one small aspect of it. I can only hope this helps to turn the tide.
