Boycott "Hobby Lobby"
They just gave a multi-million dollar donation to the Falwell Ministries.

Last time they ever get my business!

11. I'd noticed that, too
here in Texas.

It will be easy to stay out of there. I like Michael's better anyway.

2. I actually heard some rumors recently about them being fundies...
Edited on Mon Apr-26-04 05:42 PM by Lisa0825
so when I needed some craft things this weekend, I intentionally avoided them. I hope Garden Ridge is better!

I've been thinking about things like this lately... there should be an easy resource for people who want to "shop liberal." Does anyone know of anything like that?

12. I don't care what they believe.
It's a free country.

But I do care that they gave zillions to Falwell. He needs to work on his Christianity a bit, as far as I'm concerned.

5. Haven't you heard the religious music they play in the store?
It's freaky. One time I was in there and heard this mariachi band version of the Doxology, and another time a sort of cha-cha version of How Great Thou Art. It's weird. I never knew you could get Bizarro Church Music on muzac.

9. Is there a link to show KKKristian owned businesses...
...that we could simply boycott. I know of Chik-fil-a and now this one, as well as a bunch of local businesses, but it is hard to keep track of national or regional chains that I should avoid. Any help here???

10. Thanks for the info. I had no idea.
The Hobby Lobby in my town gives me the creeps anyway. It shouldn't be too hard to avoid.

The last time that I went there, I was shopping for anti-war sign making materials. Oh, the irony.

You know, I don't object to them being Christians and closing on Sunday. But I DO object when they support a fascist like Falwell!

23. Here's the Paragraph,
so nobody has to pollute themselves reading FALWELL's whole column:

*************QUOTE*****
Special announcement

This Sunday, in the 11 a.m. Thomas Road Baptist Church worship service in Lynchburg, Va., a title company representative will present to TRBC the title deed to the 113-acre, 880,000-square-foot facility (formerly owned by the Ericsson conglomerate of Sweden), which will house our future church home. This is an outright multi-million-dollar gift to TRBC from the Hobby Lobby Company. Every reader within driving distance of our church is urged to attend this historic service.

*********UNQUOTE********

And the "Got Ribbons" graphics is GREAT! Just sent it to my local wingnut radio talkshow host.

But then, I'm a known boycotter of:

"Family Circus" (the Dad liked LIMBOsevic)

"Mallard the Duck" - extreme wingnutism

"Charlie Brown" - Cartoonist dead.

20. Wow! Didn't Know
Thanks for the info...
I'm an avid R/C Slope Soarer...build my own designs. I probably spend up wards of $150.00/month on hobby supplies. I've always used "Hobby People" on the Internet. I never knew that Hobby Lobby had such a leaning. I am around a lot of people who purchase the same kinds of materials I do. I will be sure to let them know.

Thanks!

-P

22. LOL!
I used to work for a county government records department. I can't tell you how many cases I saw involving the local porn shop, called "Nobby Lobby." To this day, I can't drive by a Hobby Lobby without being reminded of that.

It will be very easy for me to boycott HL. All those craft stores just creep me out. I don't go near them unless I need something I absolutely can't get anywhere else, and that's rare.

25. Tis a treasure trove of crippity-crap
Do you have Michael's stores? Very similar. Material, silk flowers, art and framing supplies, needlework kits and supplies, etc, etc, etc. I think what creeps me out is such a huge store full of stuff needing me to give up my free time. It's great for some people, but I'd rather be reading a book.
