Strange Pickles Bush anecdote
What is it with the Bush family trying to remember the 70's? She didn't even
remember that she didn't go to her graduation?

http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2004/05/02/laura_bush_encourages_grads/

<snip>

To prepare for her speech, she had tried to remember the advice given at her graduation from
the University of Texas in 1973. The problem was that ''I hate to admit it -- I skipped the
ceremony."

When she looked up the name of the speaker, ''you can imagine my surprise when I
discovered that it was some guy named George Bush," she said to the laughter of her
audience." Four years after that speech, I married his son.

1. Damn, I would not admit that.
These people live in an alternate universe.

2. I graduated from UT in 1967 and Ramsey Clark
was our speaker.

Very anti-war.

How times have changed.

4. Let's leave pickles out of it
I've been guilty of taking shots at her myself and I now apologize for it. It's George W. Bush who is the plague that's currently afflicting the inhabitants of planet Earth. Not his wife.

Let's call him every name in the book and condemn his useless ass to hell for all of eternity. But let's also recognize that it's beneath us to attack her for his crimes. Come on, people. We're not Republicans. If nothing else, she deserves our pity for being married to him.

Okay, maybe I'm being a bit of a curmudgeon tonight, but what the hell. Let's cut her some slack.

7. Why? isn't she aiding, abetting and profiteering too? Check this:
Speaking at a rally before about 5,000 central Florida residents,(Laura) Bush said the troops are the face of American compassion abroad.

This was the next day after the torture story came out

8. Lay down with dogs...
She is every bit as flea ridden as her husband and his associates, IMO. She goes out and shills for the clown prince from time to time, and THAT makes her a viable target.

Gawd, if I was associated with anything half as bad as her husband is, I think it'd take a hell of a lot more than Thorazine to get me thru the nights...

5. It's probably her coping mechanism
After dealing with an irresponsible husband and a horrific bunch of in-laws for so many decades, the poor woman has probably erased everything from her mind but the essential stuff, such as how to breathe.

I find myself doing something similar whenever I have to listen to the guy -- if I try to actually think during his speeches, my brain begins to ache. (Given that brains don't have nerve endings in them, it's quite a feat.) So imagine what Laura's had to go through, being around * for hours at a time. If I were her, I would have erased the 90s, 80s, AND the 70s.

When she was first introduced to *'s family, his battle-axe grandmother asked Laura pointedly "so what do YOU do?" (trans.: "You must be one of those Modern Women who has to work because she's too poor, too contrary, or just unable to snag a man"). Laura just stared at her and said, "I read, and I smoke." Plus she started life as a Democrat, and actually had the guts to critique *'s speeches (he showed her by driving their car into the garage wall). The woman isn't brainless, and probably the only way she could have survived this long without going mad is by tuning out. (Maybe it just plain hurts to remember a time when she was young, had a life of her own, and was unencumbered by *.)
