Rumsfeld's "Culture of Permissiveness" Phrase coined by Sen. Bob Graham!
Just now on Blitzer he says he believes Rumsfeld has created a "Culture of Permissiveness" which is allowing detainees to be abused and that the problem is not confined to Iraq Prison but to others which we will learn about." (I had to condense and paraphrase, but what a GREAT CAMPAIGN Slogan to turn back on the Repug Dwarfs who trashed Clinton/Gore with this and us Democrats!)

Graham was excellent laying out the failures of Rumsfeld, in "blundering into situations without planning for outcome." He says there has been a pattern of failure all along and he used the analogy of Lincoln firing McClelland because after two years he wasn't able to show signs of success in the Civil war.

He also blamed Tenant for 9/11 calling it the worst failure of intelligence in American History!

He was calm and very thoughtful making all his points.

I hope others saw it. But, the most important to me was "CULTURE OF PERMISSIVENESS!"

1. While he was being partisan, he doesn't come across that way.

He was matter of fact. He was very impressive.

This war has been a gigantic failure and people are finally waking up to reality.

2. Bob Graham would be an excellent VP for Kerry.
Graham is widely admired in Florida and the south. He's a moderate. He speaks well.

Graham would balance Kerry's tendency to come across as somewhat stiff.

7. I agree
So far if Kerry has to pick a "Good Ol' Boy" Graham is the best pick I can think of. I would prefer Kerry choose someone totally out of the political circle but it doesn't really matter who he picks as far as my vote goes. Kerry has my vote in November.

3. It is good.
The CULTURE OF PERMISSIVENESS started at the top, when Bush decided he could invade any country he wants, for any reason he fabricates. Rank and file soldiers have no good example of a wise and circumspect commander-in-chief to emulate. Bush brings out the worst in humanity.

i believe. i believe they got a hold of jordon tech and saudi and especially isreal and they implemented it into their structure.

i am waiting for the whole ball of wax. it appears there was a school for interrogators in az. this happened in guantanimo afghanistan sent prisoners to saudi and jordon for torture and they had their own sit up in iraq. and they had the whole attitude premeated thru out military. and it was always stated with, god told bush to go, the killed 3000 this is for them, these people are animals.

bush said we might have to stretch the rules of geneva docu

i just beleive it was an arrogant admin thinking they could do what they want

8. I agree and think Graham knows this story has "big legs" and yet he's calm
and reasoned in his delivery, but gets his points across. I still like "Culture of Permissiveness" but no one is picking up on this in my post.

Oh well....

Senator Bill Nelson of Florida was also very strong on Talk of the Nation this afternoon. He didn't use that phrase, but he was talking about "responsibility."
Very forceful: when he was in the service, his commanders were expected to take responsiblity for what they did and what happened. Now these people are taking no responsiblity, but always trying to shift it to others.

9. Exactly! Dems can run with this right to the election. "Who's in Charge"
And was it a "Culture of Permissiveness" where "anything goes because we have a war...so we through out the Constitution (Patriot Acts) and start "endless wars all over the globe" or do we sit down and take "RESPONSIBILITY" for what our whole Foreign Policy has been for the last
50 years! Isn't it time that we had a huge discussion in the New Millenium about where our Planet is going? How long can we sustain these "ENDLESS WARS?"

12. What's fun is that Clinton is "fading away" in the muck & puke these folks
have thrown us into. Monica! Give me a break. Let's just compare Monica and Clinton with a cigar to Lyndie England leading naked Iraqi's around on a leash or pointing fingers to naked men's genitalia in "sado-masochistic uniform and boots!"

Whoo Hoo! Monica was a "Lady" compared to these perverts. :puke:

14. seabeyond, it's going to be a Culture/Values War between Us & Them
what I hear from your experience is that "minds" must be changed and that's slow and painful process. Until we change the culture of "Bring 'Em On!" and "kill, Take 'em Out, Murderers, Torturers, Evildoers, Kill, Killers, Hate, Hate Us, Terrorists" we will need much re-education of our young folk and the "average American."

We've spent so many years since the end of WWII on the "Politics of Hate" that the country doesn't know where the hell we are.

But the questions are coming fast and furious. Nothing like a "War Defeat" to get folks riled up.

I hope we can take a high road, and re-direct the conversation as to WHO
and WHAT AMERICA is ABOUT! I can't say that more strongly.

I don't know my country anymore...we are some "criminal depraved point in history worse than I've seen, and I hope we can fix it fast with every tool we have!

Thanks for your posts. It can be discouraging. I think of Martin Luther King and Ghandi. They are my hero's. Well...there are others, but those are the really great ones in recent history.
