Report from my friend's son in Iraq--He wants O U T ...N O W
Edited on Wed Jul-09-03 07:02 PM by SoCalDem
He is an army M.P, stationed near Tikrit, and even though they are in a "supposedly" safer area than beautiful downtown Baghdad, they are on TWO MAN night patrols, and are shot at every night....and more than once..

He tells HER that he's ok, but he tells his DAD the real scoop, and of course Dad shares with her later so she does not have to hear the fear in his voice.. This is a 27 yr old who has been in the army for 9 years, so he's no wet behind the ears pfc..

The most recent "event".. 2 young boys come up to them waving at them, and of course they have orders to "be friendly to the kids",, so the move to the side of the road and talk to the kids and all of a sudden, the kids bolt and then the firing starts.. This is a common occurence..

He says that most of the time they are scared to death and wonder when it will be their "turn"..

Congrats *....Mission Accomplished :(

on edit... His Mom & Dad, my friends, HATE GWB, and they voted for him and thought he was wonderful, until Iraq :)

2. This is really awfull!
Last night I started thinking about another nation-wide rally with hundreds of thousands of people in the streets. Everyone held one the same sign:

BRING THEM HOME

I'm not sure what our moral responsibility is now. I protested the war (partly because I was afraid just this sort of quagmire would result). The protest movement seems to have ebbed for the moment anyway. Though, I have heard buzz about NYC in '04.

I guess I'm kinda down today. I hope our soldiers can get out of there asap.

10. Our sons, daughters, moms, dad, brothers, sisters in a dangerous limbo.
This is exactly what most of us could have predicted. How eager are the troops going to be to defend a government that has deserted (or maybe worse, forgotten) them?

I hate to be a conspiracy theorist, it isn't like me, but maybe they are being left there so they won't come back and face unemployment, cuts in their benefits, etc.

Your idea is wonderful--I'm in.

Shame on you, Mr. Bush. Shame on you, Mr. Cheney. Shame on you, Mr. Rumsfeld. Shame on you, Mr. Rove . . .

I'm sorry that "bring them home" signs are all that we can do. I'm also concerned about the hell that country will turn into if the US military leaves.

The worse we fight, the stuck-er we get.

8. These people who pushed the war have BLOOD on their hands.
There is no other way to say it, and should be mentioned every chance we can. Protests should now include red paint, used any way that will get peoples attention. I protested before the war every chance I could, and will join any future protest in my area. BLOODY F-ING LIARS, and that includes LIEberman. He's a chickenhawk who stayed behind enemy lines. :grr:

9. My heart goes out to your friends So Cal...
as it does for all of those over there, and their loved ones. My prayers are that all of our servicemembers will return home safely in the very near future.

I have a fear though, that bush is in far to deeply to just bring our troops home immediately. We all know that this should never have happened in the first place, but now.....with troop commitment, things have changed. There was never an exit strategy, and the plans for this fiasco will haunt this administration up to '04.

May your friends hear only good news over the coming days, and hold onto the hope that all of our people will return quickly...It can be done, but it takes far sharper minds than those in this administration
have.

12. One of the most demoralizing thing for the troops is
that there is talk of sending fresh troops (this gets tough, because of course I hate the idea, but sometimes you have to be pragmatic). The brass in the Pentagon are encouraging this, but it seems to be getting stonewalled. All I can figure is that it would cost too much.

Or maybe the Shrubistas are afraid of what our young men and women will tell us when they get home . . .

16. I feel so sorry for the troops in Iraq
Everyday when I read news of more troops being picked off by sniper attacks or caught in general fighting, I can't help but feel as if they have been rounded up like cattle and shipped off to be slaughtered for a cause that has no honor. Dying for your country they are not- they are dying for the rich to get richer.
My heart goes out to these brave guys and women over there :(

17. SoCalDem, I had a mixed reaction to your post...
Your words filled me with anger, fear for the young man, and, at the same time hope that more are waking up...

Your graphic at the bottom made me fall over laughing!!!

18. Thanks..
I always aim for originality for my sig lines.. And a little levity is necessary in these times..

(a side note) some people are unhappy about the clinton reference, but without it, the others are meaningless :)

19. I don't know
considering the volume of lies by squatter 'n co., there is dignity in the BJ. My favorite sign @ the LA/squatter/Century Plaza protest was 'Better a Blowjob' (picture of WJC) 'than a c*cksucker' (picture of squatter).
