War supporters cynically try to use Berg image to wipe away Abu Graib
The NYTimes is right on with that observation. For purely political reasons, the Bush partisans would attempt to demonize all Arabs and Muslims as murderers, deserving of the atom bomb, just so they could wipe away the Abu Graib prison story and get Mr Bush back on the "winning" political track. Of course, anyone that would call them on their cyncial move, is accused of "playing politics". Obviously, no one is willing to sink to the level of Repubs when they are "playing politics....

<snip>
The claim of this young American's murderers that they were retaliating for the mistreatment of Iraqi prisoners is a cruel ruse. They killed him out of the same madness that drove their comrades in Al Qaeda to slaughter thousands on Sept. 11, 2001. But this manipulative attempt to establish a moral equivalence between the gruesome execution of Mr. Berg and the torture of Iraqi prisoners is now being mimicked by some hard-core supporters of the American war in Iraq. They are cynically trying to use the images of Mr. Berg to wipe away the images of Abu Ghraib, turning the abhorrence for the murderers into an excuse for demonizing Arabs and Muslims, or for sanctioning their torture.

1. Well, that IS ver likely the reason why Berg was murdered?
Did Bunnypants* or Unka Dicky outsource this piece of work to Bunnypants* Soulmate and Fellow Tyrant, Comrade Putin?

Very possible.

2. Yes, and notice that that flies in the face of
the chain of causality. The Abu Graib incidents were not in reprisal for the Berg incident, it was the other way 'round.

3. Ah, bullshit.
The militants directly said it was for Abu Ghraib. If an Iraqi boy, whose family we killed, years from now gets revenge by killing an American will we say, "it's got nothing to do with Iraq, it's the same madness that caused 9-11, he hates us for our freedom?"

4. And its gonna backfire
Just listen to Berg's father. They're gonna run away from this quicker than they ran away from Pat Tillman, because the family is blaming Bush! He wasn't a fair-haired WASP with an all-American image and his folks are mad (rightly so) at the government and are exposing a lot of the double-talk coming from Bushco.

The RW is pathetic - to use one of the Gingrich words.

5. Just look at how it's being editorialized across America.
It's like America's fighting the Kaiser, and the demonizing baby-stabbing Hun all over again.

Off with Their Heads: Avenging Nick Berg
Is it masochistic of me to suggest we metaphorically behead the bad Congressional stewardship that brought us to the barbarous death of Nick Berg? Hardly. Effectively suppressing the masochistic internal element during war helps ensure the victory and win the peace.

This war cannot end without victory
The men responsible for Nick Berg’s gruesome murder must be caught or killed. We believe that they will be. The men responsible for Sept 11, 2001, are being caught and killed.

This is war.

It will continue for some time, years definitely, maybe decades. An American retreat in the face of terrorist insurgents in Iraq will only serve to make the war longer.

The way to end this war is to win it.

There is no other option. There is no other choice.

6. My response. Since you hate all Arabs now you should leave Iraq..
and forget about your phony "Iraqi Freedom" mission.
