Help Dennis Kucinich End the War in Iraq -- Doesn't Matter If You
Edited on Mon Aug-11-03 03:10 AM by DemBones DemBones
support his presidential campaign or not. Kucinich is trying to end this war and bring the troops home and I've thought of a way we can all help with this cause.

Call his office at the U.S. House of Representatives this week (Monday if you can) and leave a message that you support his call for bringing home all the troops that are in Iraq. If you're supporting another candidate, you might also call his/her office and urge him/her to follow Kucinich's lead and call for getting the troops home, which includes involving the UN. (Bush* won't want to do this but we need to call for it anyway.)

Here's DK's brief speech on the House floor on July 22, 2003:

"It is time for the United States to get out of Iraq."

"But this Administration, whose entry strategy was based on falsehood, with no exit strategy, has trapped our troops in Iraq and exposed them to greater harm. The total number of American casualties is now 232. Here is what needs to be done diplomatically: The United Nations must be brought in. Negotiations for an exit must begin now. An exit agreement with the United Nations must involve the US letting go of the contracting process (Halliburton, Brown and Root, etc)."

"The UN must also take over management, accounting and distribution to the Iraqi people of Iraq's oil profits. Additionally, a transition from UN control to self- determined governing structure by and for the Iraqi people must be planned. Finally the Administration, which unwisely ordered the bombing, must fund the reconstruction."

"It was wrong to go into Iraq. It is wrong to stay in Iraq. US out. UN in. Let's support our troops by bringing them home."

Imagine the effect of Kucinich being able to go to the House floor next week and say he's gotten tens of thousands of messages supporting him on this issue. He's the only one in Congress who is speaking out for us so let's let him know we're in agreement. The rest of the politicians in D.C., from the House to the Senate to the White House, need to know he has widespread support on this issue.

Edit: Here are the phone and FAX numbers from Dennis Kucinich's House website:

Phone (202)225-5871

Fax (202)225-5745

And he has an e-mail form at his site -- if you can't phone or FAX, e-mail!

2. I think the way most of the support is on this board...DUers want....
the troops in Iraq for the long haul.

I hear most candidates calling for the USA to be committed to Iraq for years now that the troops are already there.

You won't find much help here with all these bush-lite fans. Not a dis, but a fact.

Unless they're actually hypocrites and are supporting a candidate who wants the troops to stay(most, if not all of the front runners) yet don't support a candidate who wants them home(Kucinich).

3. It's not Bush-Lite...
to want to bring Democracy to a country that WE destroyed. We must get the UN involved and plan on an infinite stay while trying to right that country. What's your solution, pull out and let them fend for themselves?

4. Please read my post and you'll see that Dennis Kucinich proposes

getting the UN involved now in planning a US exit strategy, not pulling the troops out with no thought of what happens next.

6. Was ErasureAcer right? Do DUers WANT the war to continue?

This is a way to work to end the war, to get US troops out without abandoning the Iraqi people.

Kucinich speaks for us on the House floor, as Byrd has done on the Senate floor in the past. (Does anyone know if Byrd is calling now for the war to be ended? I haven't heard, but we all know how incomplete news reports are.)

Do you want to end the war and bring our troops home? Or do you support our continuing to occupy Iraq illegally?

9. Not THIS DUer! I want the U.S. OUT!!!
Won't happen though, while the neocons are in control. Their corporate friends want all those rebuilding contracts, NO WAY will they give up control to the UN.

But that doesn't mean we shouldn't keep fighting to get the troops home, ASAP! I'll sign on this action!

10. Oh, no, it's extremely unlikely that anything we say will influence

the neo-cons but it seems about time to start saying it, anyway. The people who are in elective offices will have to care eventually. We had plenty of pre-war opposition -- where did everyone go?

It took years to end Viet Nam, as many of us well remember

11. Thanks! I'm for supporting anyone who speaks out for ending the

war *now* (i.e. starting exit planning with the UN involved right away to bring the trroops home as soon as possible.)

I'd give DK support on this whether or not I liked him for the Dem nominee. Most people who are supporting someone else say they think DK is unelectable but like at least some of his positions -- so I hope they'll call and say they're with him on this.

12. Yes.
I will call tomorrow - and I will call my reps and state that if they don't support getting us out of there, then they are complicit in the horrors going on over there.
