I can't believe it! June 30th!
How can they pass on power to these people? They can't even protect their president.

http://www.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/meast/05/17/iraq.main/index.html

They are not ready for democracy.

2. Quick vote there too
Can the U.S.-led coalition hand over power to Iraqis on June 30?

Yes 43% 2480 votes

No 57% 3256 votes
Total: 5736 votes

I honestly don't know how to answer that poll either. I think we need to get out but who will take the reins of power?

3. Why does anyone think that we are passing
"sovereignty" to the Iraqi people?

Our military will stay.

We are picking the "new government"

Its smoke and mirrors for the election so Smirky can pretend that he has "freed" Iraq and we are "on out way"?

I'm amused that anyone takes this claptrap seriously.

9. It is also political for Saddam...People looking at trial instead of
looking at conventions. It is imperative they hand over that date (to them) so they can have that long awaited trial and get Smirk's numbers up and Kerry loses ground due to the coverage of the Trial in Iraq.

4. I thought the US was responsible for security in Iraq right now
And if not, why the hell do we have over 130,000 troops there?

7. and just moved several thousand more in from S Korea
cuz, of course, that isn't important. We are wasting all our resources on Iraq and our traditional defensive positions are suffering. In other words, we have been screwed in so many ways by Bush* and Co., its impossible to keep count

5. You're being condescending.
Don't you know that even "brown-skinned people" are deserving of freedom?

Why do you hate America?

6. Do you think that the US continuing to occupy Iraq will
"make" them ready for democracy? Do you think the US actually has any interest in Iraqi democracy?

For that matter, do you think that the current administration of the US has any interest in American democracy???

10. "Power" In Bizarro World...
It's a word used to divert attention. Those who are given the word "power" have none, as this is bestowed on them by those that do. Just like "money" and "truth" and any other value they find needed to justify their continued lies and pillage.

Anyone who believes that you can have sovereignty when there are 150,000 foreign troops, uninvited, in your country, has to be smoking better stuff than I can find. This looked like a band-aid to give the sham appearance of "progress" in the "bringing Democracy" to Iraq, but now it's looking more like an ace bandage to keep this incursion together.

Anyone who takes the top job must have a death wish. Just like Karzai, he'll rule all he sees...up to the cement wall at the edge of his estate. There'll be no real teeth in this government and it'll be as legitimate as Ciskei and the other former Buntustans.

Let's start calling it straight. This regime has stuck us in this mess and has no plan on how to get us out.

11. Who shouldn't anybody believe June 30?
Have you seen what kind of "sovereignty" is being given to the Iraqis?
  • Foreign troops remain in Iraq;
  • The Iraqi government will not control security;
  • The Iraqi government will not be allowed to pass laws repealing Bremer's decrees;
  • No elections will be held.
George Orwell would love that use of the word "sovereignty." Passing that kind of sovereignty over can be done at any time.

In fact, why wait for June 30? Charades is a fun game. We can play it whenever we like.
