What if Arlen Specter was the '96 nominee?
I believe he ran for a short time. We all know the Freepers would regard a campaign by him the same way we regard Lieberman's, but I think he would make for an interesting map. He'd win Pennsylvania and possibly New Jersey and New York, but Clinton might've actually had a shot at states like Alabama, Mississippi, Virginia and Georgia. How do you think it would've turned out?

1. Clinton by an even bigger margin
Don't forget that Arlen Spector is a (so-clled) Moderate and is Jewish. Do you honestly see any situation where Republicans would have voted for him for president? If the choice was between Clinton and Spector, they would stay home.

2. Jewish?

Only an extremely small number of white supremists in the Repuke party would care about the fact that he is Jewish. Heck, most of the fundies view Jews as God's chosen people...

4. But one as leader? Think they'd want that?
Besides, his pro-choice and pro-gay views would more than nullify that.

6. Jewish not a problem
Do ya'll know that the first Jewish-American cabinet member was Judah Benjamin, Secretary of State for the Confederate States of America?

3.  I listened in disbelief....
.... as Arlen Specter attacked Anita Hill in what seemed to me to be a completely unfair way back in what, the late 80s?

Why do people consider him a decent man now? What has he done to atone for the travesty of those hearings? It better be pretty big, because Clarence Thomas is pretty little.
