Congressional Black Caucus liking/leaning Edwards - Roll Call
Edwards Gets On The Bus:

Sen. John Edwards "will board the 'Real Solutions Express' -- a campaign bus -- next week for a six-day trip around Iowa," the Raleigh News and Observer reports.

Meanwhile, Roll Call notes that "while most members of the Congressional Black Caucus are holding off on making endorsements in the presidential race, a combination of geography, fundraising and personal appeal has given" Edwards "a foot in the door with the influential group."

Over the weekend, Edwards "visited the site of the nation's first school for freed slaves" in South Carolina, the AP reports.

-------------------------------------------

I don't have a subscription to Roll Call so I can't elaborate, but obviously Edwards has the unique ability to greatly appeal to both the classic dem base(minorities, working class) and the middle independants, much like a Bobby Kennedy did.

He has been endorsed if you didn't know by both Albert Wynn(D-MD) and Eddie Bernice Johnson(D-TX), who are both CBC members.

4. Instead of Trashing A Fine Man Like John Edwards
you better watch out for Howard Dean.

If Howard Dean beats John Kerry in New Hampshire he better put the final touches on his resignation speech.

I admit the Real Solutions Express sounds a little corny, but hey, it's something!

17. It's to answer the charge that "the Dems offer no solutions".
So in that sense, I guess it works, LOL.

3. Kucinich has done this with them several times
not to detract from Edwards doing it. But just want you to be prepared in case it doesn't go to Edwards. If you need links, I'll dig some up for you.

10. I'm sorry TjDee
For some odd reason, when I first skimmed your excerpt I thought he was visiting the poor neighbourhoods with them and seeing what their needs were. Scratch my post, too late to edit it.

6. Edwards is the dark horse of this race, I think.
Barring entry from Clark.

Isn't the point of the dark horse that he comes out of nowhere to win it?

Democrats better take a long hard look at what happens in California.
If Schwarzenegger wins it, they would be well served to *pay attention* to the kinds of people Americans, even Californians, are willing to support and elect.

It is my view that we are lucky to have someone as engaging and tv-friendly as Edwards, who also has a good understanding of the issues, great ideas, and an optimistic message.
To say nothing of his electoral picture.

7. It's so obvious that the GOP has an agenda to stop Edwards
and it's rediculous to think that they aren't manipulating the primary and propping up Dean's campaign.

Look at the coverage Dean is getting, and the ignoring of positive Edwards news and the reporting of anything even remotely negative about Edwards.

13. I know he got into politics to serve the people more than anything
to improve peoples lives who need it most

and he is the candidate who is most electable, by far

14. It's hard to explain...
Like Kucinich and Gep, he started from nothing and built a successful life for himself. That means a lot to me.

The other candidates seem concerned with 'fixing' things and damage control, I've said this somewhere else...when some of the other candidates say they want a 'better America', it seems like they mean the one where we were in 2000. With Edwards I feel like I'm getting a future beyond that.

When I read things like his DNC winter remarks and his MLK day remarks, I get the feeling that Edwards 'gets' it. I don't know, maybe it's cheesy, but I *like* that he says that America works best when it works for all of us.

And, I think he attacks Bush on the most basic level--George Bush. John Edwards reminds Bush that he is a sham. Bush applied to law school & was rejected, failed in business, etc. etc. If given the choice (even ignoring politics), John Edwards would win any contest between the two. Every time.

But, I guess everyone feels that way about their candidate, which is why they support their candidate!

8. All these endorsements, at this time, are just so much smoke
Winning in Iowa, New Hampshire, and whatever follows is the important thing. Votes count. Joe Biden's endorsement, or the AFL/CIO, right now, is fluff for the beltway whores.

12. You think a CBC endorsement wouldn't be huge?
you're off you're rocker if you think that wouldn't make him a frontrunner. Black churches and community leaders will have a huge impact in all the most important primary states, and if Edwards(or another frontrunner) got their endorsement it would be VERY helpful

15. Tavis Smiley says Sharpton was told to get behind Edwards....
so to speak.

AP shared with us a long time ago that Tavis Smiley recounted that he was at a function of some kind and that some of the black folks there were telling Sharpton that he was great and all, but as long as Edwards was there, Edwards was the one they were supporting.

I think I recall the story right...AP.???

18. Also, black voters can make the difference.
Black voters make the difference in a number of elections (Bush was winning a number of states until the black/minority vote was figured in), so I'd be curious where the 'black voters', the CBC, the NAACP, etc. are throwing their support.
