Gulf troops' babies 'are 50pc more vulnerable'

By Nic Fleming
(Filed: 24/03/2004)

Babies whose fathers served in the first Gulf war are 50 per cent more likely to have physical abnormalities than those born to soldiers not sent to the region, according to a study published today.

Increased risks of genital, urinary and renal abnormalities and deformed limbs, bones and muscles were found in the Ministry of Defence-funded survey.

/snip/

Mandy Duncan, from Clackmannanshire, has had three children since her husband Kenny returned from the Gulf. Kenneth, nine, was born with deformed ears, constant headaches and needs special shoes.

Andrew, eight, wets his bed and has asthma. Heather, six, is partially deaf and suffers bowel and bladder problems.

Mrs Duncan said last night: "I don't need a study to tell me my kids have been affected by Kenny's Gulf service. I want to know what the Government is going to do about it."

I suspect it may be decades or generations before all the effects of the radioactive munitions and armor-plate used by the US becomes known.

In the meantime, millions of lives will be affected.

The ongoing legacy of the US Military . . . .

(sigh)

oh, this report is from the British MoD

- don't expect one from the United States DoD real soon . . .

1. What i don't understand is how anti-choice
people can, at the same time, support the war with all of the damage the fallout from these bombs does to children????

3. First off, few know that the BULLETS are full of Depleted Uranium
.
.
.

and of course the WH, Pentagon and Military are doing the same old, same old . . .

deny, deny, deny . .

Depleted Uranium is listed as an illegal weapon, as any weapon used is not supposed to be dangerous after conflicts cease.

That's where land mines fit in: along with cluster bombs (which have a high rate of not exploding until later) and weapons containing DU which leave residues that will maim and kill for centuries ( The depleted-uranium bullets are made of low-level radioactive nuclear-waste material, left over from the making of nuclear fuel and weapons. It is 1.7 times as dense as lead, and burns its way easily through armor. But it is controversial because it leaves a trail of contamination that has half-life of 4.5 billion years - the age of our solar system.)

BUT

the US started using Depleted Uranium in their weapons and armour just prior to Gulf War 1 (a long-term plan of genocide?)

The weapon that keeps on killing, and killing . .

4. Of the 300,000 troops that were in Gulf 1, 150,000 are on disability
and another 50,000 have requested disability. This is another war crime brought to us by our wonderful republican administration. Why no one has noticed this in the press is beyond me. And also why no one was making a big stink of this before the invasion. This is labeled Gulf War Syndrome and has an "unknown" cause. Right
