17. No...
Disney has sold the distribution rights to the Weinsteins, who will distribute it themselves, but not under the Miramax label.

They'll make a fortune off it. Disney's shareholders oughtta boot Eisner for this stupid decision.

CANNES, France -- American filmmaker Michael Moore's "Fahrenheit 9/11," a scathing indictment of White House actions after the Sept. 11 attacks, won the top prize Saturday at the Cannes Film Festival.

"Fahrenheit 9/11" is the first documentary to win Cannes' prestigious Palme d'Or since Jacques Cousteau's "The Silent World" in 1956.

"What have you done? I'm completely overwhelmed by this. Merci," Moore said after getting a standing ovation from the Cannes crowd.

45. Just point out that Quentin Tarantino was the President of the Jury...
... and Kathleen Turner served on the jury as well. So nyaaah to the Freedom-Fries Crowd.

It's an international film festival that is held in France. However, many Americans will miss that little nuance. :D

Edited on Sat May-22-04 01:59 PM by mistertrickster
together and sound pretty much like the English word "door."

"Pom door"

It translates to "golden palm (tree)," BTW.

I think that's right--never really studied French, heh.

44. erm... palme d'or
would be pronounced "palme door" with the "a" in palme like in "hat" and the "e" like the last "e" in "better".

Pom door would be too close to pommes dor (golden potato).

:-)

59. French pronunciation
I used a text-to-speech program to find the closest pronunciation :
say "pahlmer door", you will be closed to the expected result.
Continue by saying:
"jer nay pah vohtey poor jorger boosh" and you will be welcome everywhere in France :)

Translation: "I didn't vote for George Bush"
