Sheen is involved in political activisim when it comes to war, free speech, etc. And we have someone running for Governor now going, "I will pump up Sacramento."

I wish MS will consider running for something. He's intelligent and well spoken. He even *plays* a great president.

1. short answer...
He can..and should. So should Sarandon and Penn. Shoes on the other foot now -- IF Arnold (of all people!) can run for public office, what is stopping Streisand and other champions of progressivism from doing exaxtly the same. Run, Martin, run!

2. Typical RW repuke hypocrisy
Arnie Zipperator is an "All American" hero type, while Sheen is an unAmerican loudmouth Hollywood liberal.

If Arnold wins (with 20% or so, I'm sure), is there any limit as to how soon the recall Moron the Barbarian can start?

Slimy effin' repukes.

3. Bad news if Arnold wins!
If the GOP takes over the California governorship, it will help them immensely in the 04 presidential campaign. All of the analysts have jokingly mentioned that no one knows Arnold’s platform, but he is a huge favorite. With a GOP governor in California they have a huge boost in stealing all of those presidential electoral votes. What does California have, 54 votes? It is a sad day that this guy Issa, a Californian GOP politician , an operative inspired by Rove probably, can recall a guy who isn’t doing a bad job.

To me, it is just a continuation of GOP tendencies. In 2000 they stole the presidential election. Then recently DeLay , isn’t his nick-name “the exterminator” gets into Texas local politics and tries to gain GOP seats via redistricting there. There were rumors that the Homeland Security Department was helping get the Texas Democrats.

The GOP has no respect for the US citizens’ intelligence, or even interest in politics, and this California scam is just a logical outgrowth of that. Lee Atwater would be in awe of Rove.

Months ago I was upset when CNN put Kissinger on, the night of Powell’s UN speech.
I don’t think I’m wrong here. We have a dumbed-down populace and FOX will push Arnold. Moderate media, such as CNN, can’t joke about our disinterested citizens. They are responsible to bring fairness and accuracy to our citizens.

4. not so fast
yes it would be bad, but I think the Dems hold the rest and would be incharge of elections. This is just for Gov,not the entire cabinet

6. granted...
but Darth raises a hot question: why doesn't Martin run? Or Barbra or Sean Penn? Surely they'd carry liberal southern California! Why have we conceded the celebrity factor to the other side? Howcome their movie stars run for more offices than our movie stars? Our stars talk a good game but lumbering ol' Reagan and Arnold and even Fred Thompson, get out there on their big, slow feet and march into office.

18. clarification about Fred Thompson
One should not lump Fred Thompson into the list of "movie stars turned politician". He actually was involved in politics in Tennessee before he got active in the movies. It may be a small distinction but he actually was a "politician and lawer turned movie star".

Doesn't affect your main point but may help you win Trivial Pursuit some day.

Martin's photo is in rotation on Gray Davis's web site. Sheen also endorses Howard Dean.

11. The right wing would highlight he is Hispanic
My guess is it would hurt his acting career. He is half Hispanic. The right wing bigots would highlight his being half Spanish. I think he even had a Hispanic name but changed it to one that was not Hispanic so he would not be telecasted into only Hispanic movies or acting jobs.

21. technically, he didn't change his name
Saw him on inside the actors studio yesterday and he said he never legally changed his name.

So I guess if he did run he would have to call himself Ramon Estevez.

13. Martin Sheen would be a great governor
Though it may confuse people who already think he's president.

I've wondered why Rob Reiner, a Democrat who has raised some serious money over the years, didn't consider running for governor. He'd beat Arnold, and would be able to attract just as much presstime. Can you imagine the headlines?

MEATHEAD DEFEATS THE TERMINATOR!

17. Likability?
Does anyone actually like Martin Sheen, Sean Penn, or Barbara Streisand? Well, maybe Sheen. Penn is a great actor but comes across as an arrogant prick in interviews. And Streisand. . . . well . . . anyway . . .

Arnold is goofy and gregarious. He is not seen as an activist like the other three.

As for liberal actors who could run for office? I think Tim Robbins is remarkably charming in interviews. Janeane Garafola too.

Of course, Tom Hanks would be elected Pope if he wanted to run.

19. Hell, how about a ficus?
In terms of qualifications, they'd be just about equal, although the ficus would have a bit of an edge in that it, at least, can claim to produce oxygen rather than carbon dioxide.
