The solution to the "fundraising-acceptance speech" issue
is so simple.. The parties rarely have their conventions simultaneously anyway, so why not just have the commission that oversees this, set the date for federal funds' kick-in as the day AFTER the final convention..whichever it happens to be.. That would encourage the parties to coordinate their conventions a little closer and might stop this nonsense..

Conventions are unnecessary anyway.. I am surprised that the media even covers them.. We all know who is going to be the candidate, and we pretty much know what the parties stand for.. Their platforms are nmo surprise..

1. Makes sense....
And evens the playing field. We all know why the Republicans wanted a late convention....Does this kind of rule enactment need a law to be passed? Or can the FEC make a declaration on this matter?

4. We set it early
The Dems figured they'd be desperate for money and set the convention as early as possible to be able to tap into the $75 million. Now that we're actually raising money, yes thanks to Dean, a later date would be preferable. I hope that the hoopla causes everybody to know they have to donate early so we have a boat load by July and can go on with the convention as planned.

11. Is this part of the law
There is no way that congress will amend anything that would help the Democrats or lessen an advantage that Bush has.

The more that I look at this, Rove is using a late convention to get an advantage over the Democrats.
