Why does this not surprise me? Is this a reliable source? I'm not familiar with it.

5. There were reports that Israel

was training US assassination squads in Iraq, so it would be no surprise if they were also training the folks at Abu Ghraib in interogation techiques.

Israel trains US assassination squads in Iraq

Julian Borger in Washington
Tuesday December 9, 2003
The Guardian

Israeli advisers are helping train US special forces in aggressive counter-insurgency operations in Iraq, including the use of assassination squads against guerrilla leaders, US intelligence and military sources said yesterday.

The Israeli Defence Force (IDF) has sent urban warfare specialists to Fort Bragg in North Carolina, the home of US special forces, and according to two sources, Israeli military "consultants" have also visited Iraq.

6. I will NEVER click on newsmax -- in any case, we already know that the IDF

was invited in quite some time ago to train U.S. troops on their methods for dealing with insurgencies. And I have read elsewhere in the last couple weeks that the Arabic-culturally-specific methods of "humiliation" at Abu Ghraib have allegedly been in use against Palestinians in Israel for some time.

It seems quite clear that there IS Israeli involvement in the invasion and subsequent occupation of Iraq, to one degree or another. I would not, however, trust newsmax without some other confirmation.

Time to check out what John Pilger has to say, methinks...

7. One More Piece of the Puzzle
I find this article interesting, but not particularly new. I remember seeing several stories about the US going to Israel for advice and training on counter insurgency (since they've done so well at it themselves - not) with regards to Iraq .

The story behind the story is that pretty much all of the recent "revelations and scandals" have been reported in the news previously. Only with visual images does any of it register. That seems to me to make a very powerful statement about what motivates liberal western democracies into reflection.
