Poll question: Destroying Abu Ghraib: Is it to DESTROY the evidence???
Edited on Mon May-24-04 10:39 PM by seventhson
When I first heard about the plan to destroy the Abu Ghraib prison - I thought that sounded like a good idea.

But an activist friend of mine said it was to destroy the evidence and that the most effective means to use the prison would be for a MUSEUM to the Iraqi holocaust under Saddam AND the US.

He compared it to the concentration camps in Poland: the ones that are today museums and memorials are much more effective than the ones which have been bulldozed in reminding us of the history.

And Bush SAYS we'll build a NEW IMPROVED prison? With whose money ??? OURS? And who will be the contractor??? HALLIBURTON, I'd bet!!!

This is a bullshit sop thrown to the masses as a PR trick.

we MUST not fall for it

do you agree with Bush or do you agree it is a coverup?

2. Thanks
How the questions are asked often help to make the point (and if I just asked it as a straight question I might get no feedback at all.

3. My first thought was "They want to destroy the evidence"
Sad when we have to have negative thoughts about EVERY SINGLE MOVE these fools make.

4. They aren't bulldozing it until a brand new "SOA Maximum Security Prison"
is built. Given their successes (?):eyes: to date, I don't think the "evidence" is going to be destroyed anytime soon.

I guess they could do a "rush job," but they still have so many prisoners left in there, what would they do with them? Ship 'em to Gitmo? A long expensive way...

6. More symbolism over substance
It's the exact same thing as complaining about the pictures but not extending the horror of the pictures to the whole procedure of torture this sick nation condones.

Or, of watching Nick Berg's beheading and saying "That's sick, it proves these people are evil," when we have killed a hundred times the number of Iraqis they have killed of us.

Tear down the walls! Then the problem goes away, the media is deprived of a visual symbol, and the Republicans don't have to punish anyone.
