A family member phoned from Iraq yesterday
It was an unexpected call. He says that it's hot, morale is very low and getting worse each day, and that everybody he knows wants to go home asap.

He doesn't think they are getting anything done, and folks there are just gled to get through another day not getting shot or blown up.

Jeeze I worry about him, and I hope he gets his wish and gets home soon.

1. let him know....
....we want him home, too. Let him know we liberals didn't want him to go there.

Time for the U.S. to turn this over to the U.N.

2. Sounds horrible.
For all my disagreement with the war, I don't have any desire to see our citizens suffering. We need to get out of there, asap.

to hear what their opinion of Bush is.I know they must be careful, but I doubt its what the media says that all the troops LOVE Bush!

7. That makes me crazy too!
Wonder how the reception would be if he made a visit today? Would they still cheer and wave out of "duty?"

11. He's a republican,
so I'm sure he supports his president, even though it's miserable over there.

6. I hope he comes home soon
too. I heard a report this morning that some commander emailed family members of soldiers and told them he had received a promise for gatorade, food, water, clothes (new fatiques) and port-a-potties....instead of latrines. They were going to give troops a 2 week vacation to go home, but I think they have decided that would be too hard on them. Once they're home for the 2 weeks, they wouldn't want to go back. It sounds like the new provisions will be INSTEAD of a 2 week break. I feel so bad for all of them. What a miserable situation the shrub has put them in. :-( I wish your family member all the best and I hope he makes it home safely.

10. Thank you all so much for your kind words
He had nothing to say about Bush, but he is a died in the wool Republican, so it does not surprise me.

He is a step brother by marriage (my mother and his father). All republicans, except for my mother who has changed her tune since Bush took office.

I pray he makes it back safely. There is no sign that he will be back anytime soon, even for a break.

Bush will be here in Portland in a couple of weeks. I'm making a big poster with 'bring the troops home' or something like it.
