Leaders call poverty world peace threat
Edited on Thu May-27-04 10:39 AM by Skinner
SHANGHAI, China -- In an apparent swipe at the United States, African and Latin American leaders meeting in China on Wednesday urged rich countries to fight terrorism by sharing wealth, not through military intervention.

The three-day World Bank gathering in Shanghai is focused on finding ways to make better use of the scarce resources spent on poverty relief in a world where some 2.8 billion people live on less than $2 a day.

The United States wasn't mentioned directly but was clearly the target when Tanzanian President Benjamin Mkapa said "anger will not yield to military interventions."

The most basic right of all humanity is three decent meals a day, said Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

1. It's true.

Why do you think Hamas and Hezbollah are so popular? Because people want to blow themselves up?

Why is radical Islam spreading in Africa?

Because they have nothing. They are negatively incentivized to live. Osama Bin Laden gave the people of Afghanistan (well, those he needed for local support) money for hospitals and schools. It's a perverse kind of charity, where they trade the subsistence of life for death with meaning, as opposed to meaningless death through starvation or other heart-breaking means.

Why is it so hard for us to accept that the hardest and best sacrifice is giving back money and assisting in the slow growth of economies? Isn't that so much better than blowing things up?

Oh wait, sorry. Forgot I needed rational people in this argument. I'll have to wait for the Kerry presidency then.

7. Durn Socialists are at it again.
How very unAmerican of them to want to feed them lazy folks starving to death.

Why..why..we'd probably have to give up our SUV's and designer undies, just to save a few million lives!

Our God given right to own a 10,000 square foot mansion and $500 sneakers are under threat from those lazy kids with their ribs showing.
