1968: Eugene McCarthy on republicans:
"They're somewhat like the lowest forms of plant and animal life. Even at their highest point of vitality there is not much life in them; on the other hand, they don't die."

1. Eugene McCarthy was a great Patriot! I voted for him!
We could use him now.

2. That's a dated quote
Unfortunately, there's a lot of life in them and passion and that's the dangerous part. We Democrats more "resemble that remark" these days.

4. In 1968, Ronald Reagan
was saying about the same type of crap the republicans are saying today. The republican party, while not prepared to run the Gipper, was none the less being taken over by the virus that rules it today. Yet Reagan was indeed a republican candidate in 1968, and McCarthy certainly included him in his remarks. When we compare the group of republicans from '68 with the democratic candidates in 2004, I think we belong to a far more highly evolved life form. Not just Kerry, but Dean, Edwards, and Clark are all far more lively and capable than the mold on the republican ticket.

3. McCarthy

I really respected him for taking on LBJ. I was for him until Kennedy got into the race. I then supported Kennedy because I felt that he had a better chance to win, Electability? :) McCarthy was a very intelligent man with a very dry sense of humor.

5. You said it, Eugene!
They never f**ing die! You would think all that hatred, hostility and bile would kill them at an early age, but no, they live on just to torture the rest of us.

Note to Mods & other concerned parties: this is not a threat, just a comment on Repulican longevity.
