Where did Dubya earn his electrical engineering degree?
Okay! ... so I'm watching ABC coverage of the massive power outage yesterday evening when they trot out the garden gnome who then proceeds to reassure us Murikans that the power failure wasn't the act of terrists. AND THEN ... AND THEN the garden gnome goes on to say: "I've been saying all along that we need to modernize our aging power grid."

Well, after picking my jaw up off of the floor I realized that I must have dozed off during that part of the garden gnome's SOTU address.

Terrists, blah, blah, blah, al Queda, blah, blah, blah, Osama bin Laden, blah, blah, blah, Axis of Evil, blah, blah, blah, Iran, blah, blah, blah, North Korea, blah, blah, blah, Iraq, blah, blah, blah, aging power grid, blah, blah, blah, Saddam Hussain, blah, blah, blah, WMDs, blah, blah, blah, nookular capability, blah, blah, blah, imminent threat, blah, blah, blah, attack Iraq, ... and so on ...

WORST ... PRESIDENT ... EVER!!!!!!!

1. He's ALWAYS talked about the aging power grid!
And NEVER about uranium yellowcake from Niger. I remember it all very clearly!

10. A Question On That Point
Has anyone here EVER heard him mention anything about the power grid?

I've heard him prattle on about generating capacity. I've heard him prattle on about oil reserves. But, i have never once heard, or read a transcript of, a speech where this was mentioned.

If i had the subscription, i'd do a Lexis/Nexis to see if anyone has documented a single instance of him mentioning this in public.

He is such a liar!
The Professor

11. he mentioned it once -- when he wanted to buy power from Canada

Which is a far cry from repairing and upgrading the infrastructure.

And he also referred to modernizing one specific transmission line in California. Again, not the same thing as revamping the entire grid (let alone in the northeast).

What the heck does "We're dancing toward an interstate electric grid to match our interstate highways and interstate phone systems" mean? Right after that he started talking about tax cuts, as if that were the solution.

Two people in my family are electrical engineers, and I've NEVER heard them use the term "dancing", unless it's in the context of a night out at the disco.

2. He didn't say he said it to US!
He's been saying it to Laura.

At the dinner table:

"How was you day, honey?"
"Well Pickles, all in all, not too bad. Played some golf, got up to 23,000 on Donkey Kong, and they've finally found some drugs for me that are better than vodka. But the aging power grid has been nagging at me."

3. Try this article from Greg Palast about it.
http://www.gregpalast.com/detail.cfm?artid=257&row=0

"And that's why, if you're in the Northeast, you're reading this by candlelight tonight. Here's what happened. After LILCO was hammered by the law, after government regulators slammed Niagara Mohawk and dozens of other book-cooking, document-doctoring utility companies all over America with fines and penalties totaling in the tens of billions of dollars, the industry leaders got together to swear never to break the regulations again. Their plan was not to follow the rules, but to ELIMINATE the rules. They called it "deregulation."

5. Ha! I nailed it!
After hearing the Chimp was about to give an address, I told the wife, "watch, he puts in a big, fat, plug for Biggus Dickus' energy plan." "Naah, that comes later," she says, thinking the Chimp had at least a quarter-ounce of common sense. I guess I won that one.

8. I forgot about that one
that was a flag for me while watching the speech, my second reaction to the speech, right after wincing when the image of his face hit my optic nerve. I think he must have head that phrase on TV and thought it was cool. I wonder if KKKarl liked it.
