Rethug "stalking points" - pass it on
While trying to rationally discuss politics with a freeper I realized I was wasting my time. Every time I brought up a good point, he'd just move onto another talking point he'd gleamed from Rush, Faux news, Freak Republic, or elsewhere.

Let's call these rethug talking points what they really are:

Stalking Points: Also known as "bait and switch," Rethuglican attempts to divert any logic based discussion of politics with inflammatory non-sequitur.*

This technique forces the opposing debater to "stalk" the rethug through a wilderness of inflammatory insults, labels and accusations with no pause for factual debate.

* Following a statement with totally unrelated statement.

** I declare this term to be public domain and free for all to use in revealing all freeper rants as the brain flatulence they are.

1. Also known as "no response, but"
They can't debate the issue and don't want to really discuss the issue. They just want to be "right."

The point is to find something YOU don't know about but they think THEY know something about.

It gets the topic changed and nothing truely gets discussed. Your right, what is the point of conversations like that?

I stop talking to these type. I don't argue, that is for sure. They want to believe what they want to believe. The only ones I talk to is those that ASK me questions. If they are serious and want to talk, no problem there. If it is a dead end discussion, I change the subject totaly from politics.

For me, this is working out much better. After a person has got "hot headed" over a subject with you, they are to embarrased to bring up the subject later to find out your point of view or to admit their wrong. I don't put them in that situation and I don't allow such situations to happen,

Now, everyone KNOWS I'm a democrat. I get joked about it all the time. And I TAKE IT in good humor. And I give it back as well. NOT HARD, but lightly. It lets them know I'm not "touchy" over the subject and I'm PROUD to be known as a democrat. This leaves an open door policy and it has been used on "one on one" bases at times. Not me approching THEM over an issue, but the other way around. And I do it without Bush bashing hard. I don't make them feel guilty or bad.

2. I'll debate the issues Freeper style
You are a socialist, commie anti-American hippie degenerate fag and your mother wears combat boots. Issues have been addressed long live King George.

3. Did you catch Jon Stewart last night?
He pinpointed the contrived and orchestrated messages that they use when any CON goes before the media. Stewart showed five or six of the crooks saying the same things over and over. Here are the messages they spewed which have no factual basis--it's just sheer name-calling.

"Out of the mainstream" and "The most liberal" -- re: Kerry/Edwards
"Hate-fest" re: event where Whoopi spoke

No wonder you get the idiotic debate from the brainwashed sheeple. As Stewart said when he ended the segment, "Talking Points - they're true because they're said a lot."

6. You are right about their "bait and switch" and non-sequitur techniques
They learned this very well by listening to Rush Limpballs and RW hate radio for the last decade or so. This is their educayshun in a nutshell and it has been drilled into their tiny lizard brains. The only cure for some of these troglodytes is a complete frontal lobotomy.

As for freeptards, I don't let them change the subject. I do like Bernie Ward and Ray Taliaferro or Mike Webb: I make them account for EVERYTHING they say as they say it. If they make a statement and try to move on, I say "STOP! Now let me understand you... what do you mean by this... How do you know this," or something to that effect. Do NOT let them ramble on and on.

10. I sometimes use the three minute debate technique
If there's a watch around with a second hand. The rule is you make your argument for up to three minutes and then I get up to three minutes to debate. It's amazing how quickly most arguments boil down to "well, I believe this and you believe that," and end right there.

However when I argue with someone who rants and trays to win his/her argument based solely on lung power I write my rebuttal on a piece of paper and hold it in front of their face. It's amazing how a little sign will stop a blowhard.

7. A variation on the big lie
Lie

When confronted, tell another lie.

Lie about lying.

Lie about being confronted.

Tell a bigger lie.
