THe problem with predatory corporate capitalism/neoliberalism as practiced in America is that it has accelerated the development of consumer goods, esp. computers, etc. And the demand for high speed internet is very high. And there is a lot of money to be made there. So you have a lot of corporate forces pushing for development of cheaper broadband. When you get a model for wireless broadband which causes a lot more competition in broadband vendors, then that is going to push another surge in consumer buying for the equipment to make use of it. So this a revenue source that the corporations simply cannot resist. I do not think they have the discipline/self restraint to resist this temptation.
Wireless speed is supposedly doubling every year.
Imagine when 80% of America has a broadband connection and is watching TV, movies or documentary from anywhere they want from the entire world. Moveon.org could develop a TV show, put it out everyday on the P2P networks. Or some of us DUers could whip up a TV show once a week. Entertain and educate. Spread liberal memes. What a great tool for organizing and communicating ideas. It beats the heck out of what we have now. It will be a disruptive technology, not only in the consumer marketplace, but also in the marketplace of political ideas.
Corporate capitalism will have thus developed the doomsday machine that will cripple it forever.
