I had an "Ah-haa" moment on the way home from work today.
On the way home there was a story on NPR about the Olympics, they interviewed an Iraqi athtlete and talked about the largest contingent of athletes since 1988. The Iraqi I think was a soccer player and seemed resigned to no medals but just the joy of playing without fear of punishment for losing, which was the big point pushed by NPR. Anyway after the third or fourth reference to athletes competing without fear it hit me. With the Olympics ending close to the RNC starting, what happens if a "Miracle on Turf" happens and the Iraqi soccer team wins a medal and bush* has them on stage during the closing ceremony?

Could bush*co pull something like that off? Any chance of some payoffs in key places to ensure this will happen? I know bush*co has the lack of morals to pull it off, but could they? I thought there's no way a Gold medal would be believable, but maybe Bronze?

Would that do anaythting for him? Would that be enough to erase the reality that is Iraqmire 2004?

Dean was right, YEEEAARRRRRRHRRGHGGHGHGHGHGH!!!!!!

1. No, theyd have to kill or payoff an aweful lot of players
without getting revealed.

And if they thought they were unpopular around the world before, wait till after they mess with soccor.

No chance at all.

2. I don't know if they could do it.
Most of the athletes practice intensely for years but we have to be prepared for any thing that they would pull.

3. No chance
The BFEE can only respond to events at this point. They have little control over anything that happens or will happen in the world at this point.

4. With all the intense soccer fans throughout the world,
including people of relatively modest means who literally travel the world for events like the World Cup and the Olympics, it would be awfully hard for a team to throw a game without the fans noticing something was "off."

5. You're right.
No way in hell. There will be no thrown soccer games. Way too much pride.
