Recently,Will Pitt had a post on the torture of children at Abu Ghraib.
and how it needs to be kept at the forefront of all of our concerns. That post has made me think a lot about why we as Americans would even think about such a vile deed.Thinking a little further, I believe I have uncovered why children were tortured at Abu Ghraib and want to share my thoughts with fellow DUers.

I think the story of how children came to be tortured is traceable to the Second Intifada ( or, more precisely, the Children's Intifada) in Palestine. That uprising of Palestinians was entirely due to the children of the West Bank and Gaza. Their defiance of the might of the Israeli tanks with their stone throwing made it clear to the Israelis that generations from now they will still be faced with the hostility and hatred of a growing Arab/Muslim population. The response of the Israelis to this defiance was to subject the children to the kind of tortures that have now become common knowledge from the stories at Abu Ghraib.

This connection between what the Israelis have learnt from their handling of the children in the West Bank and the current revelations at Abu Ghraib is the devastating story that has yet to unfold in our
collective minds. When I heard that General Janice Karpinski revealed the presence of Israeli 'interrogators' at Abu Ghraib, this connection began to make sense to me.I only wish someone of the stature of Sy Hersh would either confirm this or put my mind to rest.
