MoveOn ad with Sgt. Lee Buttrill
Edited on Fri Aug-13-04 12:13 AM by Lakerstan
MoveOn has their Real People ads selected and the winner was an ad featuring Sgt. Lee Buttrill.

https://www.moveonpac.org/donate/switchad_winners.html

Here are a couple of other statements from Sgt. Buttrill that are interesting:

"Just wanted to set the record straight now that I am back in the States. We DID NOT cordon off the square where the people gathered and furthur more there were THOUSANDS of Iraqis there and they all came on their own. I was one of the first three American service members to enter the Palestine Hotel and view the area around the square. There was no pre-staged pro-american rally. I would never claim that all we are told by the media is unbiased and free of manipulation, but I do submit that the images on TV that day accuratley portrayed the events taking place."

"When you are moving through this country there is not a lot of people out there and you are not sure they want us here" Sgt. Lee Buttrill told ABCNEWS' Richard Engel in Baghdad. "You wonder, 'Are we doing this for us or are we doing it for them?' … You finally get here and see people in the street feeling so excited, feeling so happy, tearing down the statue of Saddam. It feels really good."

I'm wondering if these statements will somehow be used to contradict the ad. While I don't see a contradiction in what he is saying, it may not look good. I wonder if all the other folks in those ads have been checked out.

1. I don't know about that,
but I thought the William Harop ad was particularly telling.

"I feel that my life's work has been very much squandered away by this administration."

Whoa!

5. Right on.
Scathing, to say the least.

And totally true.

2. What are you kidding me? The ad is great....

I don't see any issue with him saying these things, not one bit...I think the ad is powerful, addresses the issue of the "WMD's" that we all know is BS and lies from this administration coming from the mouth of a US Marine, is pretty powerful stuff...In fact the quotes you show above just prove that it's the best ad, because it shows his credibility....

No contradiction at all...and don't question MoveOn's thoroughness yes, they are very thorough....yes, they would have checked everyone out....kinda hard to fake a US Marine who is a registered Republican who went to Iraq and doesn't plan to vote for Bush and instead for Kerry.....

4. I think the ad is great too, but...

I can just hear the Freepers now saying, "The guy in the MoveOn ad says the Iraqis were happy to have us there - that justifies the war."

I love all the ads, but in today's climate and the tabloid style of journalism, I can see crap being dug up on some of these fine folks, taking away from the debating of real issues.

Maybe I worry too much - a result of 4 years with *.
