Why is the GOP so open and free about their bigotry?
Why are republicans such bigots? They keep saying Kerry looks French? How about they explain how French people look? There are many French-Americans living in the U.S. that are being offended by these remarks. Why are they slandering them? How about Black-Americans? What do they look like? Or, Hispanic-Americans? What do they look like?

To Bush and the GOP leadership, you need to stop being such racists. Bigotry is NOT an American value. You use stereotypes so freely like as if it's a some type of joke. It's disgusting. Explain yourselves. STOP being divisive. STOP being racists.

1. The more the repukes spew their hate the more voters they drive our way
The year they pushed the "defense of marriage act" I had had enough.. I finally woke up and saw how much that party is driven by hate and I left it.

So please.. let them continue. It really helps to show the contrast in the two parties.

2. It appeals...............
to their base. Their base is comprised of either the very rich, who see minorities as leeches sucking THEIR money away from them, along with the middle and lower classes that are uneducated and see minorities as taking their jobs and opportunities, along with social services that THEY pay for out of their paychecks.

Foreigners are just backward, smelly and they "talk funny". Republicans see everything in the American way, if you don't do it the American way you're backward and stupid.

They seem to forget that this country is a mere babe in arms compared to other countries whose history goes back many centuries.

In short, they're myopic idiots that think very little. What is foreign to them is considered a threat. If you don't understand other cultures, for God's sake don't make an attempt to understand them, just ridicule and if possible kill them. Problem solved!

3. Because they can afford to. Voters who are otherwise appalled at
racism and intolerance towards other social groups still vote republican when they are pre-occupied with consolidation of their wealth (no matter how small) and with being "protected" against foreign invaders.

4. Because they are in control...
and truly believe they are right. The more power they have the farther out in radical-land they move. Witness the GOP candidate in TN that's for cloning humans.

5. Since Reagan. Rosalyn Carter said...
...something like "the reagans have made us more comfortable with our prejudices"
It outraged republicans at the time, but I continually think how prophetic she was.

There is a vile, nasty virulent creeper vine of racism and bigotry in the republican party. Not all rank and file republicans are, but the taint of the plant as it worms its way in rubs off on everything. Its now so powerful they take no steps to hide it or pretend its not even there. They say "so what? I have a right to keep my bigotry. Whaddya going to do about it?"

IMHO, of course.

7. The are open about it because they can
They started the whole "PC" campaign quite a few years ago which made being PC a bad thing, such they made being liberal a bad thing.

So they can be as bigoted as they wish and if anyone complains, they say "oh you are just being PC".

17. That's hardly the start of it...
The Right started making noise about "political correctness" at precisely the point in time when "on orders from Moscow" had been rendered impotent as an explanation for "why those lefties act the way they do".

9. Bigotry In America - The Greatest Generation
Edited on Fri Aug-13-04 08:13 AM by LeftHander
Thanks to people like Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly along with the local media, religious fundamentalists and even our parents we live with the legacy of bigotry.

More often than not, when you strip away all the glossy shells, peel back the protective steel of a SUV, and the designer clothes you end up with a foul bigot.

Deep inside of the conservative psyche is the child that was repeatedly told blacks were nothing but sub-human criminals. Asians were here to take your jobs along with a long list of other foul statements. The greatest generation quietly indoctrinated an new generation of haters and bigots. We were given support from a mostly white controlled media infrastructure and fundamentalist religious community. This was the gift of the greatest generation. The gift of organized hate and the ugly American bigot. The result is what we are seeing today, war, division, state sponsored discrimination and a ruthless uncaring society lead by uncaring liars.

Because of our fears placed on us by our parents we have learned to look the other way, gravitate to white only neighborhoods, hire only other white people, socialize only within white circles. We buy handguns to protect ourselves and giant automobiles to entomb ourselves in when we pass through "bad" neighborhoods. I say we because we all are victim to American bigotry. It is everyones problem not just those among us who are the obvious bigots.

The conservative ethic has over the past 40 years done nothing but foster division, elitism at the cost of the happiness of entire populations of Americans.

The most unfortunate aspect is that this is human nature. To hate is a protective mechanism of self-preservation. Bigotry is a result and it is a twisted aspect of a normal personal introspection. We all look inward and make the choices that are either divisive or inclusive, risk taking or protective. Our upbringing and experiences set the stage for how those decisions are made.

Left unchecked poor decisions can result in a positive reward for negative behavior. Thus we have people who continue to foster hate because it makes them rich. Rush Limbaugh, case in point. Here is a man who has become wealthy and popular by always choosing self preservation and divisiveness over understanding and reason. His upbringing has allowed him to deeply internalize any internal conflict. It is not without damage. He became a drug addict. Somewhere deep in his mind he knows he is a awful rotten bastard and he drugged himself to stop his moral conscience from reminding him.

As I noticed in my father, now in his 70's, when you reach the end of your life all you have left is who you are, friends and family. If you spent a lifetime hating and living a selfish ungrateful life then in the end you will be left with only the hate and knowledge that your life was wasted..and you be very alone to bitterly ponder that until death takes hold.

Fortunately I have met many genuinely loving and kind people that are a continuous inspiration. They all are beautifully thoughtful people. I try everyday to hold back the past and to look forward. Ignoring the hate I was surrounded with as a child. It is very hard.

Bigotry is a word not oft used today. It should. We need to openly inform people that certain modes of behavior are bigoted. We need to call people that foster organized discrimination as being bigots. Because that is what many truly are.

This is a subject I have been thinking a lot about lately. It seems to tie together many of the ills we all face.

On edit: grammer and to say...peace.

They are unable to get over even the smallest slights. They still whine and cry about 1 sentence made by that Dixichick over a year ago. Its their fate.

12. because the modern GOP is the party of racism
When the Democrats decided to change and support the civil right's movement, then the GOP decided that they too would change and become the party of racism. They made this choice deliberately, as a matter of policy, in order to pick up the votes of the ignorant racists who fleed the Democratic party. If both parties had decided to do the right thing and support civil rights, then we'd have a better world and all that jazz, but it didn't happen. LBJ is famous for his remark to the effect that supporting civil rights would "cost us the south for a generation, but it's the right thing to do," and I'm sorry to say I've never seen anything to contradict his analysis. There is a substantial minority of people in this world who can only feel important if they can look down on somebody else.

It is not a matter of jokes. It is not a matter of, it's 2004, and yet Republicans don't know better than to make racist, sexist, or homophobic remarks. It is a deliberate way to send a message to the huge numbers of bozos that are their base.

Why do you think so many poor and lower middle class white males vote for the GOP, even though it takes money out of their own wallets? Simply because they vote based on race hate.

It is taking even longer to change hate-filled hearts than LBJ could have ever imagined.

13. Kerry stopped a lot of the french bashing
When he pointed out that karen Hughes was born in Paris, France. Kerry needs to do more of that. When the repugs accuse him of something it doesn't work to explain your actions. It's better to attack the accusers.

I believe his base is all he has right now. There really are Pubs who are upset because of excess spending, hugh tax cuts during a war, etc. I don't know they'll vote for a Dem, but they won't vote for shrub either.

He can't afford to piss of any of his evangelical base, or his lost everybody!

And that is an insult to dogs, I realize.

They love Jayzuss. And Jayzuss sez it's allright to hate anybody but rich white folk. It's in the bible. Just ask a fundy. Jayzuss was a pale white Anglo dude, not a Jew born in the Middle East. What's wrong with all you PCers who don't get that?

I tell ya, yer all goin' to hell if ya don't love pasty Jayzuss and his spokesman Georgie Bush.

19. Unfortunately, bigotry is a big American value among
certain segments of the white population. It will be a problem as long as these people segregate themselves in communities with only other white people and home school their children to pass on their bigotry.
