Why does Chimp have a southern accent but Jeb doesn't?
Were they raised together?

1. Cause it's fake. He's from Connecticut, educated Phillips academy
in Andover, Mass. Who would put on a fake southern drawl? Does he think southern voters are so stupid they'll only vote for folks who sound like them, no matter what they are actually saying. Such a fraud.

3. Watch how the accent CHANGES depending on who he's talking to
THIS would be another great Kerry ad. When Bush is at a campaign event and he thinks it will help him he lays on the heavy drawl. On other occasions he completely drops it.

30. actors have noticed this ...
I've seen interviews by at 3 people who've portrayed Bush on TV (Timothy Bottoms, Brent Mendenhall, and Will Ferrell) and they've all said that Bush's accent isn't consistent with the regional dialects they teach in acting school -- they approximate him by slurring their words. Mendenhall, who's a southern Republican and should know his accents, says the best way to do this is to pretend you've "got a mouthful of marbles".

Bush is probably doing an Eastern-educated person's notion of what a Southerner sounds like.

2. it's so 'suthrn' that you can tell it's not genuine
I KNOW how southern people talk because I grew up with family that was from E. KY. and let me tell you, W's accent isn't 'suthrn', it is fake as his presidency.

4. That's easy! See, Jeb went to college in Austin, Tx, and, ummm...
...Georgie went to college at Harvard and Yale?

Well, huh. What do you know.

5. Because his is affected. Fake. A put on.
Listen to him speak to different audiences. When he is with blue-collar people (he made an attempt to speak to some unionists a while back), it gets thicker. At a black tie dinner, it is less noticeable.

It's a sham.

6. It's a fake accent.
Bush isn't really from the south. He's from the New England area.

where his pronunciation of "terror' comes from (New England or Tejas). I know where his pronunciation of 'nukyuller' comes from. Stupidtown.

That is in the guide on how to make a New England cream puff cheerleader appeal to Joe sixpack.

10. Not only does Jeb not speak that way
but no one in his immediate family speaks that way. Speaks volumes of his personality. Couldn't cut it with the intellectuals, and was a bit of a joke in that arena, but could really wow the boys in Midland. Think he's over compensating a bit. . .?

11. Chimpy doesn't have a Southern accent.
The way he talks is the unfortunate result of a pampered New England preppy trying desperately to imitate a cowboy. That's why he moseys around with his arms curled out to the side, too.

Did you see F 9/11? It was very striking that in that clip of him being interviewed when his dad was president, he didn't sound like L'il Abner on LSD. Sounded like a nice rich boy who had been to school up north. Almost articulate, even.

27. I don't think he has a speech impediment
I think when he slips on words, it's because he's tripping over the accent.

12. A Southern accent isn't an asset in Florida but is in Texas,

Florida being so heavily occupied by people not from the South.

Though Texans tend to say Dubya doesn't sound like a Texan. At least, Texans at DU say that, maybe RW Texans think he does?

20. George can't pronounce the letter "z"
He always pronounces the final letter in words ending in "s" as a pure voiced "s" sound, not an unvoiced "z" sound. When he says "puttin' food on yo' families", he pronounces it as "familiessssssss" (not familizzzzzz). He cannot pronounce that final sound as a "z". That isn't characteristic of any accent I know on planet earth.

I wonder how Dumbya manages to fake an accent yet can hardly speak in complete sentences.

At least sentences that make sense.

25. I don't know what his accent is right now but it is not Texan.
He did speak with a bit of a typical Texas accent at times when he was here but not anymore. The Texas accent varies greatly but nothing I have ever heard here matches what he is speaking there.

33. God I'm glad you asked this question.
I saw a commercial he did for his first election - ran for the House in 1980 or something. He had NO accent and sounded like a wimpy, mealy mouth...NO southern/Texas etc. accent. Then runs for governor...current accent in place. Nobody acquires a totally new accent as an adult, nobody. This guy is really sick, I mean beyond what anyone is saying and this is the clue. He puts on his tough-guy character all day, all the time. We're fucked!
