Poll question: Should People Be Allowed To Vote Online?
Edited on Wed Aug-25-04 04:02 PM by The Nation
Do you think people should be allowed to vote online?

Why or why not?

On the positive side, it could increase vote turnout. On the negative side, it might be vulnerable to hackers and other information superhighway evil-doers.

Edit: Perhaps when the security and technology has matured a bit more.

5. In Michigan we could vote in the Democratic Primaries online.
I found this a very easy and acceptable way to vote in the primaries. However... for anything else NO Way....

9. Um...they have you snowed.
Poll based election or absentee with a ballott is the only secure way to vote. As long as proper auditing proceedures are in place. With interent voting there is no way to be sure your vote was even counted.

14. It does snow in Michigan....:-)
I know your right. I agree with your feelings 100%....however with a primary there would be less need to cheat. I know that it probably could happen... cheating happened with paper ballots also... so to infer that there isn't cheating when not using online voting is naive. Electronic voting machines also are subject to cheating... the developer of those machines wanted a paper trail, which has not been implemented. EVERY system of voting is subject to cheating. No system of voting is immune ... you don't have to look very far into our past to see that.

6. Online Voting = Linus Torvalds mysteriously winning the election.
While the rest of the country sits around, scratching their heads, wondering who in the hell he is.

7. aside from the potential for hacking
There's something to be said for having to *go* to a polling place, and interact with people while you do your civic duty.
