How many decades have we blown our horn about our greatness?

There was a period when there was truth about the thousands of people who wanted to immigrate here. There was a lot of promise and we earned the reputation of having open arms and being a melting pot (in the early part of the last half century).

Somewhere along the way, though, we had superiority shoved down our throats by pompous patriots who by ranting about our superiority, gradually lowered our prestige in the eyes of the world and started a period of silent toleration.

Citizens of other countries started valuing their countries even more, but found it unncessary to strut around bragging about it. They quietly let us strut and pump ourselves up.

There has been something psycho-pathological in declaring superiorty and by reverse implication, putting others down.

In one fast swell of damage by the reigning PNAC White House, we wiped out all respect for our values and honor.

In one fast swoop of contempt for the rules and treaties previously worked out by our statespersons with statespersons of other countries (who were, at times, coerced into the treaties), we pulled the carpet out from those rules and treaties that represented improvements in reciprocal human evolvement and earth protection.

In one fast swoop we isolated our country and became an object of jokes and stunned disbelief about our actions.

Now we know the right wing flip-flopped about their promise of uniting our country. Conversely, they never promised they would unite the world, but they didn't tell us that they were going to take it over, one country followed by another.

Do people who laugh at all of us? Are they scared of all of us? Or do they know that we are not all flip-flopping scammers and conquerors?
