Let us face it.For the past three and a half years, a hoax of massive
proportions has been perpetrated on the American people. This hoax that dwarfs the Communist Scare in its scope portrays this country as a sitting duck for a ragtag band of Arab/Muslim terrorists. It seeks to utilize American racism and xenophobia in the service of the PNAC agenda whose goal is nothing short of world domination.Even as we sit here, the Republican convention continues to perpetuate the myths originating from the 9/11 tragedy and culminating in the Iraq war based on lies.War criminals not merely run our country now, they have seized the agenda, impoverishing our people and using their fears to make them go against their own best interests.

Our best hope may be to let them continue in power and sow the seeds of their own destruction. This will happen most likely when our country will become bankrupt from the profligate ways of the prodigal son Bush and those people who followed him blindly will reach what Paul Krugman has aptly called the Moment of Revulsion.

1. yes but how much will be lost on the way
to the "moment of revulsion"? Will we be at war with the entire middle east by then? Will we be a third rate economic power choking on our own pollution by then? Will we be able to recover?

Moments of revulsion throughout history have been very bad for the health of the oppressors. Will we be burning republicans at the stake? Will we be living in a "civil cold war"?

2. Thanks to the...
... "with us or against us," "dissent is treason" routines of the far right, we're already in a civil cold war....

3. They say you have to hit
bottom before you can come back up... I am afraid that these repugs won't see the light until they hit bottom... hard... and they will have to take us with them... that is the sad part.

5. If historians like Paul Kennedy and Chalmers Johnson are to be
believed, we will become an economic basket case if we haven't already. As it is if our debt is not being bought in vast quantities by China and Japan we would have reached such a status already. So long as our people continue to believe in the inherent evil of our fellow human beings of a different religion and different skin color and have a lifestyle that makes them impervious to seeing the humanity of other people, nothing is likely to change. This is why I believe along with people like Chalmers Johnson that a collapse of confidence in our rulers' judgement is necessary. If it happens by economic collapse, it is probably better than a military collapse as happened in Vietnam because at least it will prevent the deaths of our soldiers who have no say in the mad policies of this administration.

I only have to refer you to the obstinate support Hitler had till his dying days from odrinary Germans to support my thesis.

8. They have already said an economic collapse is their goal.

Remember the Grover Norquist pledge to shrink gov't until they can "drown it in a bathtub"? This is their intent and they are succeeding.

I believe that they have miscalculated tho. Like all the neocons they are not realists, but ideologues. Just as iraq was to be a 'walk thru', they think their wishes will be reality. I think the reality is that there are a whole bunch of angry people out there, and a good many of them are trained in both weaponry and tactics, thanks to our military-congressional-intelligence complex and its incesant arms building and training.

They also fail to consider the fact that when people have their pride taken from them, in the body of their carreers, their savings, even their homes, people will react and with the impossibility of creating political change they will turn to physical action for change. I think that once things reach that point there will be no turning back and a civil war will have started. This time the civil war will once more be about slavery, but it will be economic slavery, and result in either a descent into chaos, or a new dawn for the world.

Our only choice will be whether to participate or just keep our heads down. Either way, changes will be massive.

And we've been warned about it many times over:

"I see in the near future a crisis approaching. It unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country. Corporations have been enthroned, an era of corruption will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people, until the wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the Republic is destroyed."
-- President Abraham Lincoln (assasinated), 1864

"working upon the prejudices of the people" = "utilize American racism and xenophobia"

"The death of Lincoln was a disaster. I fear that foreign bankers with their craftiness and tortuous tricks will entirely control the exuberant riches of America and use it to systematically corrupt modern civilization. They will not hesitate to plunge the whole of (humanity) into war and chaos in order that the earth shall become their inheritance."
-- Chancelor Otto Von Bismarck, ~1880

"Today the path to total dictatorship in the United States can be laid by strictly legal means, unseen and unheard by Congress, the US President, or the people. Outwardly we have a Constitutional government. We have operating within our government and political system, another body representing another form of government, a bureacratic elite which believes our Constitution is outmoded and is sure that it is the winning side. All the strange developments in foreign policy agreements may be traced to this group who are going to make us over to suit their pleasure. This political action group has its own local political support organizations, its own pressure groups, its own vested interests, its foothold within our government, and its own propaganda apparatus."
-- Senator William Jenner, 1954

"strange developments in foreign policy agreements" - a dime a dozen these days.
