Hey, Karl! Miller was the fucking KEYNOTE SPEAKER!
That means his message is the guiding message for the whole damn convention.
This is great.

Thank you, Zell, for screwing up in such a mighty way!

15. Bwaahaaahaaa! Zell is nuts and he was the RNC keynote! PERFECT!
Now the traitorous thugs are backing away from Zell the traitor and throwing him to the wolves.

It's all just so...so...so

SO VERY REPUBLICAN!!!!

After gauging the harsh reaction from Democrats and Republicans alike to Sen. Zell Miller’s keynote address at the Republican National Convention, the Bush campaign — led by the first lady — backed away Thursday from Miller’s savage attack on Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry, insisting that the estranged Democrat was speaking only for himself.

Late Thursday, Miller’s name was removed from the list of dignitaries who would be sitting in the first family’s box during the president’s acceptance speech later in the evening. No explanation was immediately offered.

It was in the same hall 12 years ago that Miller, then the respected conservative Democratic governor of Georgia, enthusiastically supported Bill Clinton and belittled President Bush’s father as “a timid man who hears only the voices of caution and the status quo” and a “commander-in-chief talks like Dirty Harry but acts like Barney Fife.”

A senior White House official, speaking to reporters before Bush’s address Thursday night, said, “Senator Miller was speaking on behalf of himself and obviously on behalf of himself.”

They KNEW DAMN WELL what he was going to say. They provided him the "Library of Congress" talking point to use on the cable news shows they sent him on after his speech.

You bought it, you broke it, you OWN IT DAMMIT!

What will be interesting is that since it is OBVIOUS Zell is being thrown to the dogs because he's no longer any use, what will his reaction be? And will anyone be pointing a camera at him to capture it?

33. Did the halls of MSG not resound with right-wing cheers for Zell's rant???
There's no calling this one back, boys and girls. Zell is **your** baby! You booked him, made him your keynote speaker, and you knew **exactly** what he was going to say -- you own him!

Actually, Zell's was the only honest Rethug voice in the entire convention -- his right-wing ravings are really the kind of horse-hockey that's driving the GOP. They hold up McCain and Arnold as examples, but they're abberations. Where is Tom DeLay? Trent Lott? Where are all the other rabid right-wing-fundie nutjobs who are really the GOP base?

Zell's fate is a signal lesson on the kind of loyalty the Rethugs give to defectors who try to enter their "big tent."

GOP: You SUCK for tossing Zell. You let him carry your dirty water, then shitcanned him. You are the lowest of the low.

39. unless....
is it possible the whole thing was stage managed as a way of having their cake and eating it: They get to fire up the wingnut base, then comes the fake "oh dear, only a crazy democrat could make such devisive remarks" -- the whole thing intended as a setup so the Chimp can bask in the heavenly glow of being "a uniter."

Just like the Swift Boat attacks were a setup, so Bush could come in long after the damage is done and pretend to be opposed to the nasty tactics.

48. Bwah-ha-ha! Now they're "snubbing" poor Zellie.

From the above article:

"Late Thursday, Miller and his wife were removed from the list of dignitaries who would be sitting in the first family’s box during the president’s acceptance speech later in the evening. Scott Stanzel, a spokesman for the Bush campaign, said Miller was not in the box because the campaign had scheduled him to do too many television interviews.

There was no explanation, however, for why Miller would be giving multiple interviews during Bush’s acceptance speech, or what channels would snub the president in favor of Miller. Nor was it made clear why Miller’s wife also was not allowed to take her place in the president’s box 24 hours after his deeply personal denunciation of his own party’s nominee."

60. And it looks like those polls might be getting freeped too!
Anyway, back to the original subject: I have to agree with batgirl's earlier post in this thread to some degree. Although I doubt it was planned, it looks like the RNC reaction to Zell is an attempt to falsely distance themselves from the hatred toward Democrats. I bet Zell is still getting plenty of pats-on-the-back behind the scenes.

Fortunately, I think too much damage has been done to the image of the convention, despite this. Like other DUers have pointed out, this guy was the keynote speaker. Kind of hard to backtrack on that, now.

59. Zell And The Snake.
On his way to work one frosty morning, Farmer Zell found a poor snake frozen stiff, lying at the roadside. Filled with Conservative Compassion, he brought the helpless creature to his hearth and revived it by the fire.

Upon seeing that the snake had recovered, he clasped it to his Compassionate bosom. Whereupon the snake sung its fangs deeply into his flesh, filling his veins with its venom.

"WHY!?!?" cried the astonished Zell. "Why would you poison me after I SAVED you?"

"Dumbass," said the reptile. "I'm a snake. That's what we do."

Any questions?

61. Bush MO: get liars to rile up the crowd, then deny any involvement
Even if you delegate responsibility, it's your call to whom you do so. At the very least, they have no ability to judge character.

We know that's not the issue, though.

The get surrogates to lie for them: saintly veterans or morally outraged members of the other party. They sling lies and they do it on purpose.

Folks, they think you're so stupid that they can just lie and then move on when things get too hot. Lied about Enron. Lied about 9-11 investigations. Lied about Iraq. Lied about job figures, having to revise every one of them. Lied about Sandy Berger. Lied about lying. Lied about Clarke. Lied about O'Neill. Lied about DiIulio. Lied about Wilson. Lied about arsenic, clean air, clean water and promising to sign the Kyoto Protocols. Lied about Florida. Lied about the Venezuela Coup. Lied about taking Aristide away at gunpoint. Lied about having ties with the Swifties. Lied about knowing Ken Lay. Lied about being exonerated by the SEC for Harken. Lied about flying fighter jets. Lied about funding No Child Left Behind. Lied about keeping proselytizing out of Faith-Based Giveaways. Lied about nation building. Lied about negotiating with Hussein. Lied about Cheney's involvement with Halliburton. Lied about authorizing torture. Lied about "not having an inkling" that anything was amiss in the pre-war intelligence. Lied about having a whiff of compassion. Lied about Chalabi. Lied about Syria. Lied about numerous WMD "discoveries". Lied about 9-11 warnings. Lied about Plame. Lied about Neo-cons conspiring with Israel. Lied about Air Force One being targeted on 9-11. Lied about the NORC report. Lied about having exit strategies. Just lied, lied lied.

And, of course, have lain around for about 40% of the time on slovenly vacations when not killing small animals for "sport".

They hold the world in such scorn that they lie with flagrant sloppiness and reckless extemporaneousness. They hate you and they laugh at you; the world is Junior's oyster, and he was born to shuck and jive.

Repeat the word "lie" over and over and over, and own the word. They can't even put up a holding action on most of them; it's a winning strategy.

Fuck you Zell, hope your wife had to sit with the other shit heads down on the floor.

This is funny as hell seeing how all the RW talk radio clowns were just drooling yesterday about Zell's speech. Hmmm, wonder if they'll talk about these new revelations???????

67. Don't know if anyone else remembers this
from way back during the fake Whitehouse "vandalism" story. For weeks, the media constantly repeated false allegations ( "journalists", sadly, didn't have any other stories to report -- Laci Peterson hadn't disappeared yet.) Then one day I saw the Chimp on the tube saying the whole thing wasn't really that bad. I remember thinking at the time, maybe he's more decent than I thought -- it must be OTHER people who are spreading nasty rumors.

I'd forgotten all about it but seeing these most recent GOP manure spreaders -- the Swift Boat Shits and Zell --reminded of it.

I believe everything the manure spreaders say is vetted and choreographed down to the last drop of spittle. The goose stepping righties wouldn't allow for an accident. MSG had to be thick with plug pullers who would cut to commercial if anyone had veered from the script. Home viewers would have suddenly been watching a Burger King commercial while husky men wrestled the old coot to the ground and shot him up with several liters of thorazine.

The only thing better would be the announcement from Terry McAullife that zellout has been kicked out of the party. Traitor.
