any positive bumper sticker experiences?
I keep hearing about people being harassed for bumper stickers. I've experienced it myself. But this morning, someone at the gas station came up to say how much she liked my "No Bush. Know Peace" sticker. She said that would be her first time voting, and that she was excited to support Kerry-Edwards. It really put me in a good mood. Now, I don't expect advertisements on bumpers to change anyone's mind about the election, but do enjoy them as a form of expression. Have other people had positive experiences with bumper stickers?

2. i saw a really cool one
here in austin yesterday.
it was on a truck that had the flag decals and all the other semper fi stuff, but on the tailgate the guy had taped a sign that said
BUSH LOST MY VOTE IN IRAQ it wasn't a real bumpersticker...just a paper sign that was taped onto the truck

3. yes a few
1) Woman behind me honks her horn. When I look in the rearview mirror, she draws the outline of a rectangle with her hands, points to my bumper, and gives a thumbs up.

2) Guy pulls up next to me at a light and motions for me to roll down my window. When I do he yells "Bush is an asshole!"

3) A couple motorists have made a fist-pumping motion when passing me.

5. So far, I've nothing but positives...
(knock wood)

I've had people come up to me in a convenience store to tell me how much they like my stickers, and people yell out their car windows while I'm driving that they like them. When I see someone else with a pro-Kerry or anti-Bush sticker, I always try to catch their eye and give them the thumbs-up.

4. Yes!
I have a custom-made sticker with a photo of Bush & Cheney and the text "In your heart, you know they're wrong." Yesterday when I was at a stoplight I heard the car behind me beeping, and when I looked in the mirror the guy behind me was pointing to the sticker and giving me a thumbs-up with a big smile.

6. Once at a rather long red light...
a thirty-something black woman with her pre-teen daughter pulled up behind me in the left turn lane. I happen to glance in the rear-view and noticed the daughter sitting up in her seat to read my bumper sticker- "In a time of universal deceit telling the truth is a revolutionary act- George Orwell". Her face was ponderous for a moment when it lit up with this brilliant smile and she tapped her mom on the shoulder and pointing at the sticker. Mom was nodding and beamed with pride of her daughters inquisitiveness.

Almost simultaneously they noticed I was watching in my rear-view. I put my right hand up and waved back to them and the little girl gave me the thumbs-up and they both erupted in enthusiasm! I just returned the thumbs-up when the light changed.

That happened before the start of Iraq War II. I notice people reading it still but never got a reaction quite like that since.

9. I've had no experiences, either positive or negative, but
yesterday, in my moderately conservative community (with all Repuke "representation" at the national level) I saw a dozen or so pro-Kerry and anti-Bush stickers on other cars.

10. I live in a very liberal town in a very conservative state
and I've had several people compliment me on my stickers. There are a fair share of Bushbots in town, so whenever honks their horn at me I think I'm about to get shot, but more often than not they give a thumbs up. Little moments of solidarity really make the drive home from work a lot more pleasant.

11. Oh yes!
Here in Texas, we lib'ruls like to show some solidarity whenever possible!

Anytime reprehensor or I (or both of us) see someone with Kerry stickers, Texas Democrat, or any remotely-looking liberal stuff, we always give em the "happy honk" (2 short ones), a smile, and a big thumbs up. And almost always get one in return.

It's an easy way to share some happiness and give someone a bright spot in their day!

12. A few weeks ago, I posted about one....
I have a Kerry sticker, and 2 anti-Bush stickers on my car. One says, "Doing my part to piss off the radical right.", and the other says, "Any man who renders himself unconscious with a pretzel isn't smart enough to lead the free world."

One day after work, I came out to my car to find a small hand-written note under my windshield wiper. it said, "Hooray for being able to vote! GO KERRY! :) "

13. Just YESTERDAY, I did!
I was stopped at a stoplight and in my rearview mirror I see a lady getting out of her car...passenger side...and she came up to my window and asked "Where did you get your sticker?" I asked her if she wanted one and she screamed..."YES! I DO!" I said..."G-d LOVE you!" So, I got in my purse and gave her 2 buttons and a bumpersticker and told her to wear the buttons wherever they go.

I also met my 1st anarchist yesterday at Staples. THAT was interesting. :eyes:

17. I've had several. AND some interesting pin experiences - MEME NOTICE!
Edited on Fri Sep-03-04 11:43 AM by calimary
Had one guy yell to me out his car window - "I LIKE your stickers!" Big smile. I returned it, with a thumbs-up. Saw a guy on a bicycle pull over and read the back of my car yesterday. In my rear window I've taped a Kerry sticker, "War is Not the Answer," and "bush KNEW." Had several people compliment me on the "bush KNEW" and ask where they could get one. I'd give them one of my extras. Twice I've taken my Kerry sticker out of my car to give to people who asked about it. One parking lot attendant on the Friday morning after Kerry's convention speech asked me about it, so I gave him mine. The one in my car now is my third one.

I've had one negative - guy in a big pickup truck on the Ventura Freeway kept trying to intimidate me out his side mirror from the lane next to me. I was driving my kid in the carpool lane, and this guy pulls up after being behind me. Gave me the MOST awful, evil, angry, fairly threatening glare I've EVER seen. As he continued down the freeway, trying hard to get abreast of me, I kept easing back on my speed so he wouldn't succeed. He kept trying to ease back, too, but couldn't quite get abreast of me. So he kept glaring at me in his side mirror. I just smiled sweetly back at him. Finally he gave up and moved off - his freeway offramp was speaking to him louder than my bush-hatred was.

I have had several really interesting reactions to the Kerry pin that I wear on the front of my hat all the time. Two groups of women, one with kids, in separate places, reacted really strongly (and favorably) - and almost exactly alike:

Oh!!! KERRY!!!!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!

I suspect they were REALLY stressed over the convention and were grateful, even relieved, to see a sympathizer for a change. I told 'em to stay strong and keep fighting. It's been a gnarly week. But after bush's speech last night - HARDLY an award-winner - I'm not feeling quite so dejected. Whatever bounce he gets is gonna be a mile wide and a quarter-inch deep.

AND GUYS - PLEASE SPREAD THE FOLLOWING to ANYBODY you encounter:

If the republi-CONS are so great on security issues, HOW COME they let protestors sneak into their highly-guarded convention - on THREE OUT OF FOUR NIGHTS? They were infilitrated by their opposition across the board. On the fourth night (Monday), it was Michael Moore. Some tight ship they run...
