**** OFFICIAL DU CLINTON WELL-WISHERS THREAD #2 ****
Edited on Fri Sep-03-04 02:05 PM by Skinner
In response to the news about Bill Clinton's health scare and surgery, many DU members have already approached me to ask if we could do something for him. I briefly discussed it with the other Admins, and here's what we've decided to do.

We would like all concerned DU members to post their well-wishes in this thread. You can post as much or as little as you like. If you'd like, you may consider signing your post with your name and hometown. I will open additional official well-wishers threads as necessary.

Once everyone has had ample opportunity to post their thoughts, I will print out or transcribe the thread(s) and forward them to Bill Clinton's office, along with a card or flowers or some other appropriate gift.

I trust that all DU members will participate in this thread with the appropriate level of respect. Inappropriate or disruptive comments will not be appreciated.

Thank you.

David Allen
DU Administrator

12. Dear President Clinton
You are and were the greatest president this country has ever known. I know you will come out of this better than new.
My wife and I think you're the greatest and always have. Everytime we see you or hear you speak we wish you were still president. You always gave us hope that things would work out.
We wish you well. Thank you DU for allowing us to write this to the greatest American President.

29. Dear President Clinton:
I met you at your book signing in Los Angeles this summer. I have your autograph. It is truly one of my most valued positions. I shook your hand - a highlight of my life. I am saying prayers for you, Hillary, and Chelsea and sending positive healing energy your way. Without question, YOU are my favorite president of all time. Whenever you are giving a speech on television my friends and family call each other and say: "President Clinton's on CSPAN, or Presdent Clinton's on Larry King!" Take care. I know you'll have a speedy recovery because you're the comeback kid!

You are the greatest president we've had in modern history, & I adore you & Hillary.

It was when you were president that I overcame my fear of the computer. I had had enough of the Republicans & I was determined to learn the computer to have my voice heard in Washington.

You've done so much good for this country, & we need you to get fully recovered so that you can be our voice of reason.

Bless you, Hillary, & Chelsea :)

24. Though I doubt you will personally see this...
I was raised Republican by my die-hard (but very intelligent) Republican parents.
It was your wrought eloquence which drew me to vote contrary to my upbringing.
I was raised to respect language and articulation as the means by which civilization flourished.
I would vote for any person who had such work ethic, diplomacy, and eloquence as yours.
I can't wait to address you as "First Gentleman Clinton".

Now go and get yourself a good personal trainer.

Email Rec'd from my D.C. Republican colleague:

With the news of Clinton's health situation today it reminded me of these facts, I will share.

You know despite Clinton's problems in Office he never had approval ratings as low as "King Faud Bush". Even at the height of the Monica problems his approval ratings were still in 60’s. For example on Feb 1, 1998, Clinton hit a 69% percent approval rating. That rating was better than Ronald Reagan's highest approval rating!

Upon leaving office, Clinton had one of the highest approval ratings for a retiring President in U.S. history. King Bush’s approval rating is in the 40’s, and this little blip up in the low 50’s will go back down after the RNC hate feast in NYC is a sad memory for the GOP.

The GOP fear game is not going to work. People still vote from their pocketbook, and Bush-Cheney will lose.

Look at the great Winston Churchill, he saved England and help us beat the Nazi's in World War II, then right after the end of WWII in July 1945, he is voted out of office as England's Prime Minister because of continued economic and infrastructure problems on his home-front.

Britain’s Prime Minister Tony Blair is getting ready to learn the same lesson when he gets voted out of office. When that happens, and it will according to the British press, there goes our only large ally in the Iraq/Middle East fiasco.

Let us also remember that King Bush must overcome 48 years of history to win re-election over Democrat John Kerry. Since 1956, none of the three presidents who trailed in a Gallup Poll after February of a re-election year won a second term.

Please let all know, that Bill is in our prayers and our deepest thoughts,.....and his man WILL win come November - It's in the bag!

All the best,

- J.A.L.

72. Mr. Clinton, please read the following letter...
Dear Mr. President,
I voted for you twice, without hesitation, and was frankly delighted when you won on both occasions. Many of those who have been your detractors over the years fail to acknowledge that the nation, as a whole, greatly benefited from your Presidency (I am once again proud to capitalize the word). Through your tireless workdays, your efforts at always finding the legal and honorable mechanism to solve domestic and foreign difficulties, we as a nation felt that our best interests were being served in the best possible way.
I have felt, for the past 3 3/4 years that our national interests have been subordinated by the selfish and mean spirited agenda of a small group of people who have decided that might makes right. It is indeed disturbing that those people chose to follow Adam Smith, and not read Thomas Hobbes (though it is questionable whether they would have understood Hobbes). I, as many of my esteemed colleagues, have felt as if under a dark cloud during the present administration, waiting for the next round or 'evil this' or 'evil that', and trying to figure out just how long the American people will allow this farce to continue. I am dismayed when I listen to broadcasts from the electronic media and compare the tone of these broadcasts with those of 35 years ago, when we still had real journalists with real news. Had we still had that genre of journalist in the 1990s, we would have been hearing more about the accomplishments of your administration rather than the superficial and meaningless 'news'.
I would like to thank you for the service you have given to this country, and hope that you will recover fully from the surgery. I would caution you, however, to let nature take its course and not to try and rush the recovery period. Yes, the nation and John Kerry both need you, but there is a time and place for everything. Once you have recovered, then I would invite you to rejoin the fight for our nation, not before.
I send you my warmest best wishes, and hope that you will convey them to Senator Clinton and to your daughter Chelsea as well.
Together, we can lift the darkness and bring this nation back to where it once stood, bright and proud, not a sulking monster ready to strike even its allies, at the slightest hint of dissent. I wish you Godspeed.
