After reading how Killian's secretary said that the documents were fake but that the content was accurate, something occurred to me: Could it be that CBS/Rather actually do have the originals, possibly handwritten notes or audio tapes of Killian's?
Dan Rather is a smart, experienced journalist close to retirement. He's also a Texan who has been at odds with the Bush family in the past. He certainly is not unaware of the Bush/Rove/GOP attack machine. Could it be that he has only released a little of what he actually has to allow the WH/GOP to overcommit themselves? To let them start screaming "Forgeries!" along with the Freepers before he releases more....and then more...and then more, until they are buried under a pile of authentic documents?
Maybe I'm just full of wishful thinking, maybe I should be fitted for a shiny hat, but there's a whole lot more to this story it seems.
Some say CBS' proof doesn't add up. Maybe Rather is fixin' to start multiplyin' on them instead.
Dan Rather may close his career not with a bang, but instead a sonic boom.
(That's my only interest in this whole story -- I am frustrated with the focus being taken off of Iraq, our economy, etc., but if there's more out there that can bury Bush as the election draws nearer, I'm all for it.)
