Anyone interested in the Jack Idema story (the supposed 'freelance' torture guy in Afghanistan) needs to check out DN! today.

DN! is very brave.

1. Got a link, this sounds interesting?
I thought the US said they had nothing to do with Idema? Yeah, right.

2. It will be on democracynow.org later by 11 am or so.
Houston public access channel 17. But you can listen streaming live to KPFT.org at 9 am Houston time (90 minutes from now) (or perhaps it's on NOW at WBAI, I'm not sure).

21. How could anyone have ever possibly believed that lie?
It doesn't make any sense. Who would or could go to Afghanistan and set up a "freelance" counter terrorist operation? The whole notion is crazy and impossible. Only a government approved operation of this type could operate there. Any other claim is too fantastic to be believed.

3. I think Idema knew they'd deny all knowledge of him
so he decided to have some insurance against that.

5. How do you video tape
a phone call? I'd think you'd only get one side of the conversation that way unless a speaker phone was used...then how do you prove who's on the other side of the phone?

7. I'm asking
how do you VIDEO tape a call? I can see taping BOTH sides of a conversation with a phone tap or tape recorder or something, but how do you VIDEO tape BOTH sides of a phone converstaion?

10. it can be done
using video/satellite communications equipment.

a previous employer (a communications co) had a tv/vcr unit which allowed for video and audio to be sent via satellite. for their use
(meetings with remote offices) only the audio was taped, but video was possible, if the need was there.

11. Turn on the speaker phone
Edited on Thu Sep-23-04 07:55 AM by DoYouEverWonder
and video tape yourself talking to the person.

Make sure at the beginning, you get the person to identify themself.

Hi, is this General Boykin?

Yes.....

13. Ask him specific questions
Edited on Thu Sep-23-04 08:00 AM by DoYouEverWonder
that only he would know the answers too.

Then make him talk long enough, that they can do a voice ID.

A voice is like a fingerprint. There are certain ways people accent things that are unique to each person.

26. They say no; but definitely Boykin's office
where Boykin's assistant says that the 'Wanted' posters have gone up in Afghanistan (Idema wanted) to 'build a firewall' between Boykin and Idema.

8. Watch Democracy Now.
They show Idema talking on the phone, and play the audio of both sides of the conversation as recorded from the phone call.

You just put the audio with the video, that's all.

18. i haven't heard or viewed the show yet,
so i can't say. i don't know what type of equipment Idema was using.
i can say however, that unless Boykin was employing a video phone-hookup, his image would not be present on the tape.

20. You can download DN as an mp3 file
I never watch it, just listen to it. I don't find that the RealPlayer video is particularly reliable.
