I am a conservative who has come to your message board looking for information on the "other side" of the argument. I tried to start a new thread but apparently I am not allowed to without having sufficient past posts.

Could someone perhaps start a thread for me to ask a few questions without having to hijack someone else's post?

Thanks for the welcome. I can assure you, I have no intention to be nasty to anyone.

I've looked around a good bit, but really didn't want to steer any threads off topic. Obviously the folks here are very passionate and I don't think it's faire to steal a topic like that, particularly if one makes the assumption that a conservative posting here may generate considerable interest.

your statements, or without verifiable links (I hate to post stuff without the ability to back it up), then you are most welcome to post.

What I meant about the archives (and you may not have to go too far back) is that you might find your questions already placed here. You wouldn't be "hijacking" a thread if you are contributing to the debate.

Also, please be sure to let people know if you're making a joke. Something like "All you liberals are baby-killers" might earn you a tombstone if we are not in on the joke (via either a ;) or /sarcasm).

Take it slow and easy. Don't get too overheated, or you might find you'll have to repeatedly come up with new names.

As you've noticed, people around here are passionate, so all I or anyone else here can ask of you is that you take the time for a fair assessment.

What issues are you mostly concerned with? There are plenty of people here willing to point you to an issue forum (although those can draw the "extra-passionate" and be less diverse than General Discussions), or help you with searching the archives for past discussions.

9. My thoughts

I have a family member who is staunchly supportive of the left while I am a lifelong conservative. I've read a number of posts here and many seem to be aligned closely with her way of thinking. While very passionate in her beliefs, she is not comfortable with debate(which I don't hold against her). I'm looking for the truth and some insight into the arguments made by the left, and was wondering if that sort of conversation would be tolerated here.

I am a Bush supporter, and am not looking to change necessarily, but I believe that if you cannot defend your argument, you must look at the alternative. In that spirit, I'd like to know what you all have to say. I'm certainly not saying I'll agree with you, but I would love to at least have the conversation.
