Here we are, two and a half years later, we're four days away from a democratic election, the first one in history in Afghanistan. We've got 10 million voters who have registered to vote, nearly half of them women.There are two columns dealing with Afghanistan on today's NYT op-ed page. In "The Afghan Miracle", Safire writes that in conversations with Karzai, he learned to call "warlords", "regional leaders" as they celebrate a "political miracle".
The other column, Kristof's, is worth the register, if you haven't already. His is one that brought me to tears and to the point of wishing curses on DICK.
