Last night he heralded Afghanistan as a "success"

Here we are, two and a half years later, we're four days away from a democratic election, the first one in history in Afghanistan. We've got 10 million voters who have registered to vote, nearly half of them women.

There are two columns dealing with Afghanistan on today's NYT op-ed page. In "The Afghan Miracle", Safire writes that in conversations with Karzai, he learned to call "warlords", "regional leaders" as they celebrate a "political miracle".

The other column, Kristof's, is worth the register, if you haven't already. His is one that brought me to tears and to the point of wishing curses on DICK.

in order to curse Darth Cheney, there's more than enough reason to curse him already!!!! Although, this is probably reason number five hundred thousand.

I'm so glad that Kristof wrote this. What a world apart are the two schools of thought on one newspaper page. It's a marvel.

this is one thing i think he didn't consciously lie about in that debate.

4. He must know what a farce it is

Karzai, allowing warlords to beat and imprison women for failing virginity tests, is allowing warlords to rule as the Taliban ruled. The only difference is US validation of that behavior.

6. this is the guy who voted against head start

meals on wheels, the MLK holiday...and in support of apartheid in south africa. perhaps he admires the 'freedom' in afghanistan, from the haliburton executive perspective.

Read that somewhere today. The Taliban that Cheney says have been taken down. I live on the beach and there's not enough sand to bury all the ignorant U.S. heads in.
