I just spoke with Hilary Clinton in Delaware County, NY
Senator Clinton was traveling from Albany to Binghamton, and stopped in the town of Sidney in Delaware County. A few of us decided to go to the Sidney Civic Center to met with her, in part because her visit was being kept a secret by the local powers that be.

Sidney, like Delaware County, is a rural, republican area. It seemed that the local political and businessmen who met with her wanted to orchestrate the entire event. Although there were numerous local media represented in the small crowd, her planned stop received almost no attention in the "morning news."

Senator Clinton gave a wonderful speech about the problems upstate faces, due to the policies of the Bush administration. She then went into a short Q & A period, where the republican mayor decided which three people were allowed to speak. Obviously, the democrats were largely ignored.

But Senator Clinton has class. She walked to the back of the room, and spoke informally with us democrats. I was able to speak to her about environmental concerns. She is a powerful human being.

Now, what's funny is that none of those 25 republican men is any fan of Hilary Clinton. I know that; you know that; she knows that. I think they must suspect that there is going to be a democrat in the White House very soon, and they know which side the bread is buttered on.

1. Did she tell you where she hid all those flu vaccines?

I understand the Free Republic posters feel she is to blame for the shortage.

5. I believe the Clintons
are familiar with Joseph Wilson.

The meeting was to address issues that are specific to that community. There are several "SuperFund" sites in the township, and a few of the republican business leaders were among the "responsible parties" who graced the land and water with PCBs and TCE contamination. I wanted to concentrate on that issue. Although there is an agreement for clean-up at one of the larger sites, the money is not there. The contaminated water goes directly to the watershed that supplies NYC; hence, when the people in the city drink coffee, brush their teeth, or shower in the morning, they are ingesting toxic chemical wastes from these Sidney SuperFund sites.

7. She's an enormously powerful lady!
It's not the first time I've met her; under the circumstances, though, I wanted to be sure to have some democrats there!

11. She also said
that if Bush is elected, his administration is moving towards destroying public education. She spoke very strongly about this. (Perhaps I'll start a separate thread on GD:Campaign 2004)
