I had a horrible night last night
I am going to school at UOP and we had class on Election night. It's an IT class, so some of the other students brought their laptops. I'm already feeling down because Kerry seems to be in trouble, and the first thing I hear when I come to class is a student looking at his computer and saying "Kerry's getting his ass kicked everywhere!" So, I basically got to hear all the bad news being gleefully told throughout the night by the anti-Kerry students with laptops. I swear I must be the only Kerry supporter in the class. These are all people I know pretty well, but we rarely discuss politics. I resented the hell out of being in class on Election night. I had to sit there in class with no Kerry supporters in sight as the candidate I volunteered for and supported was going down in defeat.

One of my classmates showed me an image on his computer of Kerry beating up Bush in a UFC-type match. (They know I like UFC) He joked that Bush should be the one on top. I told him that I like Kerry, but that things didn't look good for him. It seemed like he was trying to cheer me up. I think most people in the class know I'm a Kerry supporter, but nobody knew how involved I was or how upsetting this was for me.

When I heard that Bush had won Florida, I was a mess. I knew it was over for my candidate, and I had to find out in class. When I got to the parking lot after class, there was already a car honking its horn in celebration. I was abolutely worthless in class that night. One of my learning team members was upset with me for not finishing something I thought I had more time to complete. Definitely my worst election experience of all time.

1. My sympathies
I truly believe Dems (at least most) are not guilty of the shameless type of immature gloating committed by Repugs. Disgusting.

2. Congratulate them

Tell them they ran a very good race.

Let them enjoy their moment in the sun. In about a year's time, they will be singing a different tune entirely.

At that time, don't gloat. There will be too many newly-minted Liberals for you to waste your time on it.

They won the election. They bought themselves responsibility. They have whacked the hornet's nest and agreed to stick their bare asses up next to it. In short order, it will seem like their world has been turned upside-down.

Turn them on to BartCop and Randi Rhodes and Air America and DemocraticUnderground.

You've heard the old saying, "when life gives you lemons, make lemonade?" Well, we just inherited the universe's biggest lemon farm.

And read my thread on gloaters at: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x2590992
