HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Delay's name calling--Dean!
DELAY: DEAN'S ASHCROFT SLANDER AN EMBARRASSMENT
US Newswire/Bloomberg/no url | 9/2/3

SUGAR LAND, Texas., Sept. 2 /U.S. Newswire/ -- House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Sugarland) today condemned the comments of presidential candidate and former Vermont Governor Howard Dean, who said, ``John Ashcroft is not a patriot,'' in New Hampshire yesterday.

``Howard Dean is a cruel and extremist demagogue,'' DeLay said.

``John Ashcroft loves America more than Howard Dean could ever know. John Ashcroft has sacrificed for his country, and devoted his life to serving it. He is as kind, generous, and patriotic a man as I've ever met. And Howard Dean is as ignorant on John Ashcroft as he is on national security.''

``Howard Dean's comments are an embarrassment to the democratic process and the Democrat Party. If this cruel, loudmouth extremist is the cream of the Democrat crop, next Novembers going to make the 1984 election look like a squeaker.''

They have no idea yet how fast Dean would beat Chimpy, but they do sense some kind of threat. They do not know what to do with Howard Dean!

50. Kerry smeared by DeLay.
Before he turned his fumigator on Dean, DeLay went after John Kerry. What did the war hero Kerry do? He said along with Iraq it was time for "regime change in America."

Kerry, for those who may not know or remember as far back as April, was referring to George W Bush. Google "Kerry DeLay regime change" for a bunch of articles.

2. Coming next week: Hugh Hefner on how to avoid lustful thoughts!
If Ashcroft is "as kind, generous and patriotic a man" as DeLay has ever met, somebody needs to get out more! Or perhaps DeLay just hangs out with the GOP, and not folks like Amo Houghton and the late John Chafee.

Oh, and it's DEMOCRATIC PARTY, Mr. DeLay. Perhaps they didn't teach you any manners in the 'can Party.

75. Really?
Last year I was talking to my AP Govt. teacher about Chris Matthews, and she said she doubted that he was still a Democrat, even though he worked for several Democratic politicians and said in his book that he became a Democrat during the Kennedy-Nixon race in 1960. I think this is kind of a clue that he still considers himself a Democrat...only a partisan Democrat would jump all over someone for saying that.

87. He's a Democrat, but
Edited on Tue Sep-02-03 08:59 PM by caledesi
he has some real dilemmas:

Most of his family (father, brother are repugs)
His wife is very liberal and if you ever see her (he has her on once in blue moon), she is great!
He has to do a show and "tries" too hard not to be partisan and pisses a lot of people off.
If you ever see him expound on other shows, he's a completely different person. Sounds much more liberal than his show.
He was in the Peace Corp (how much more liberal is that)?
And, he HATES the Clintons...mainly because he wanted to be the speechwriter for Clinton and didn't get the job.

As an aside, I have sent a few emails to Chris and he has responded personally to ALL of them. He's not that bad. I just HATE most of the repug shills he has on the show and I LOVE the Big Dog and it bothers me that Chris hates him so much.

That's my take on ol' Chris.

Edit: usual stuff

When he went after Kerry's patriotism Kerry bitch slapped him.

Let's see how Dean responds. I hope Dean punks him. DeLay is a freaking extremist, not Dean.

Mr. Delay -

Well, after reading your bashing of Howard Dean, I just donated to his campaign. Yup, that's how it works...you keep bashing and we keep donating. All of DU (DemocratIC Underground) are going to apply this method to the candidates we support. You bash; we donate. Either way you lose.

Looks like Dean will be swimming in money after you guys get through w/ him.

19. projection
8. Psychology.

a. The attribution of one's own attitudes, feelings, or suppositions to others: “Even trained anthropologists have been guilty of unconscious projection—of clothing the subjects of their research in theories brought with them into the field” (Alex Shoumatoff).

b. The attribution of one's own attitudes, feelings, or desires to someone or something as a naive or unconscious defense against anxiety or guilt.

21. Lessons in Patriotism
"I don't need any lessons in patriotism or in caring about America from the likes of the right wing and Tom DeLay and others," said Kerry, who was awarded a Silver Star, a Bronze Star and three Purple Hearts during two combat tours in Vietnam. DeLay and Frist did not serve in the military. Racicot, an attorney, served in the Army Judge Advocate General's Corps from 1973 to 1976.

Kerry expanded on his remarks Friday when the issue showed no sign of abating. Following a speech to schoolteachers in Washington, D.C., Kerry said, "I'm not going to let the likes of Tom DeLay question my patriotism, which I fought for and bled for in order to have the right to speak out."

"When in the midst of a Blame Typhoon, with charges and counter-charges being hurled in all directions, I find it most useful to consult those two polar stars of utter wrongheadedness, Tom DeLay and The Wall Street Journal's editorial page.

Both good for a chuckle, and both perfect weathervanes for the wrong direction. When in doubt: disagree with DeLay, and you'll be OK."

33.  DeLay =Thug/Politician
Tom DeLay is a 2-bit thug/roach killer, who after being elected by his bible thumping community, came to power under the Newt Ginghrich attack on America plan. He had been in the killing business so long that he only had to expand his horizons from bugs to go on the attack against the "Loyal Opposition" within our democracy.

That explains why they had to hide him during George's Presidential Convention. It sure wouldn't look good to have the slogan "Compassionate Conservative" and then have the nasty little man/bug killer standing next to the Emperor.

I think Al Franken is right-on. Don't bother to debate these jackasses, they are incapable of honest debate, that is why they attempt to outtalk and scream in your face. They cannot stand being made a fool of, therefore don't get mad - laugh at them. Things are so bad we can either laugh or cry. LAUGH at them it makes them mad as hell and it gets others to laugh at them too.

If Dean's campaign succeed in signing 2 million volunteers as they are planning not only Bush is a toast but there is a very good chance of dems winning huge in both House and Senate races next year.

54. Full-court press in Congressional races, too.
There is no reason we should not have candidates in EACH and EVERY one of the 435 districts next year. Not just sacrificial lambs, but REAL CANDIDATES who work their asses off and get people's attention.

Think about it. Even a House candidate who loses by a smaller margin than the last guy who ran may have minted enough extra votes to turn a red state blue. Example: In 2000, in the 23rd District of New York, we had a high-profile Senate candidate (HRC) as well as the most contentious Presidential campaign in recent history. The voter turnout was in the 30% range (see article in the link below). That means just about everybody you run into (7 out of 10) is a potential GOTV target, and I don't think they fail to vote because they are satisfied with the incumbent. I think it's because there aren't any real challengers.

42. Dead silence. Told her we were donating because of him.
I told her we were donating more to Howard Dean and to the Texas Dems in the honor of Tom Delay.

There was a dead silence. I said hello do you realize we are about to become a country with a one-party system? I said that would be dangerous for either party to be in total control.

I thanked him for calling attention to someone who was speaking out.

She was nice. Stunned, but nice.

To: COUNTrecount

Hmm. And Bugman Delay's absence from Vietnam because 'too many blacks and hispanics' were taking up available positions in the Army positively drips woth patriotism, I suppose?

Could it be that the recent Rethuglican attacks against Dean are coming because the Gov. is SPEAKING THE TRUTH? Could it be that the Rethugs are scared of a TRUE POPULIST CAMPAIGN?

Just watch the Dean Train roll while the whole neocon house of cards comes tumbling down. Your days are numbered, Dubya, Bionic Dick and AshKKKroft. We will take our country back.

51. The Dean Campaign (but not Dean himself) responds
Dean for America Communications Director Tricia Enright responded: "The narrow ideological agenda of the Delay-Ashcroft wing of the Republican Party threatens basic American freedoms that have been enshrined in the Constitution for over 200 years. Those policies are not only extreme, they are cruel."

Show Tom Delay what Americans really think about Ashcroft and Patriotism. Sign the Stop Ashcroft petition -- 60,000 Americans have already signed it -- and pass it on to your friends:

http://www.deanforamerica.com/stopashcroft

Use this petition and this moment to invite your community to join this campaign -- show them how you are taking the country back and restoring true American patriotism. After you have signed this petition, pass it on to all your friends.

56. DeLay is God's gift to the democratic party!!!
The man who said "veterans need to sacrifice" for the "war" on terror. As if veterans haven't been sacrificing for years due to the VA budget cuts and underfunding that make their receipt of deserved health care benefits yet another battle to endure.

Dean is getting a lecture on "patriotism" from a member of the republican congressional leadership who helped threaten members of congress with the loss of pet pork projects--if they failed to keep the VA budget underfunded and slashed.

DeLay is a pathetic, hypocritical ass. And the more he speaks, the more we get fired up. And the more he speaks and acts--a better target and poster boy he becomes.

Don't miss Newt too much! Toxic Tom is here to save the day!!

61. The higher DeLay's profile the better
Keep him talking. Outside of places like Sugarland, DeLay's juvenile rants and petty bullying only serves to hurt the GOP's causes. The irony of this isn't lost on leaders like Howard Dean and Wesley Clark, who I fully expect will continue to bait him into having these ever so quotable tantrums.

DeLay is the kind of person that many people fear, but few actually like, even within his own party. The more national press he receives, the higher his profile, the easier it will be for his enemies to take him down. It's an age old story.

71. I don't think that Gov. Dean was trying to bait him--or anyone else.
He was only telling the truth about the dangerous nature of the Patriot Act and the man who was primarily responsible for it.

Then Delay acted like a lunatic. That kind of reaction was not in proportion to Gov. Dean's statement about Ashcroft. It was about that, yes, but it was about more.

78. Dean and Clark have both been baiting him
sometimes subtly, sometimes not so subtly in speechs and interviews over the past several months. Whether this most recent outburst was in response to something particular Dean said about Ashcroft (he talks about that a lot, so it's hard to say) or whether DeLay's just being his insolent, vindictive self- it sort of doesn't matter.

What's important is that Dean, Clark- and all of the other candidates- keep egging him on. DeLay's the kind of witness that skilled cross examiners dream about. He's rude, intemperate and it's fairly easy to get his psychological (or should I say psychotic) goat while remaining calm, rational and above the fray. Almost every time he opens his mouth, he potentially damages the GOP and helps to prove our case.

If the DNC is really committed to taking back the House and Senate, it should highlight Tom Delay as a centerpiece of a nationalized campaign. Every Republican candidate should be associated with him.

After all, with few exceptions, he controls their votes.

76. THE BIG DIFFERENCE THIS TIME
Is that DeLay doesn't realize that HOWARD DEAN WILL FIGHT BACK. He's not a pansy assed liberal handwringing dem party flack; he's the real frikking deal. This only serves to energize him. Delay is doing us a BIG favor.

The most delicious part of this is that No One over on that side of the aisle gets it that easily HALF of Dean's support does not show up on their radars.

Dean for America posted this after Delays comments:

Dean For America Responds To Comments by Tom Delay

BURLINGTON--Dean for America Communications Director Tricia Enright issued the following statement today in response to today's statement from House Majority Leader Tom Delay: "The narrow ideological agenda of the Delay-Ashcroft wing of the Republican Party threatens basic American freedoms that have been enshrined in the Constitution for over 200 years. Those policies are not only extreme, they are cruel."

feel like this is the first shot in a battle to wrest control of Texas from the GOP?

Texas is going to be a battleground. It is their home turf. Why else would Delay even make a statement about Democratic hopefuls right now?

I love it when the GOP try to tell the Democratic Party what they should and should not do.
