I began to realize some of the irony here today at what we think we have to do next time.
1.Forget about the South. Write it off. Can't win in the South.
2.We have to have a candidate from the South, a New Englander can never win again. (Oh, wait, but we are writing off the South.)
3.We must have a pro-war candidate to appear to be the party of the strong. (We had two of them on the ticket...results pending from the election...maybe.)
4.We must take pro-choice and pro-civil unions off the table...too risky. If we keep them as issues we can't win the South...but I forgot we are writing off the South. A former president who stood for the gay rights has now said a person is unelectable if they support them.
5. We must write off the Christian community, especially evangelicals.....but isn't that why we are taking civil unions and abortion off the table so we can reach them?
6. We must have a candidate who is careful in what he says, cautious not to offend. (We did. He was a good candidate whom they insulted daily.)
7. Our candidate will have to appeal to the swing voters, the undecideds. The base will come along. You know what, a lot of the base did this time. May not work again. You may have to appeal to them next time.
8. We must have a candidate with military background so they can relate to the folks who think the party is not strong enough. (Did that..two of them). The other side attacked them on it.
9. Maybe next time we won't offend them with some of our liberal and progressive views. We need to be more careful.
