Also, an amendment pertaining to Black Box Voting (Amdt. 11) will be offered to H.R. 2989, the FY 2004 Transportation/Treasury Appropriations bill when it is considered on Tuesday.

1. What no Republicans to co-sponsor?
Makes one wonder?

4. The guy sponsoring that Amdt. 11 I noted is an extreme conservative:
Mr. King (IA).

However, he wrote the amendment in such a way that it violates House rules and will undoubtably fall on a point of order. :-(

2. I note...
Still not a single Georgia representative sponsoring this bill.

Where's John Lewis? Where's Denise Majette?

They must be taking lessons from Zell Miller in how to ignore their constituents.

3. Extremely good question
I'd think that at least John Lewis would support this.

5. John Duncan (R) of Tennessee said he would probably
co-sponsor it. He's not too convinced about this whole idea of "touch-screens". i met with him 10 days ago and reviewed the information on BBV and HR 2239 with him.

He's not a clone or a blind follower of Tom DeLay. As a amatter of fact, Rep. Duncan is an old-fashioned conservative. Voted against the Iraq invasion and voted against recent tax cuts.

He's not a Democrat, but he's a decent man who tries to do right and often gets it right.

8. HR2989 Is a Red Herring
That amendment works right up VoteHere's ally. It calls for an independently verified paper, but NOT a voter verified.

I keep saying, the details will kill you.

That is the language VoteHere uses in their "miracle" cure to the current Diebold dilema.

Folks, that ain't what we want.

It might look and smell like what we want, but it won't deliver what you think.

Glad to see McDermott finally signed on.

Tell all these guys what's wrong with 2989. It's not a stop gap measure- it's a ploy to take voter verification away and replace it with encryption.

10. It needs the amendment(s) that call for a "voter verified"
paper ballot.
