Bush just destroyed himself tonight
Just when he needed to talk to the nation about their lost jobs and drained pensions and the fake economy -- he buries himself by promising new roads and new schools and reconstruction for IRAQ. Billions and billions of your hard-earned tax dollars...for someone else.

Goodbye, George. They'll remember this day as the day you faded into history.

1. Bush is a traitor.
A lying traitor. A cowardly traitor. A weak, selfish, brutal, petty, childish, self-whoring, son-of-a-bitch TRAITOR.

He is going down.

3. you make a great point!!
We here in the USA want better roads and schools too but Bush tells us that there is no money for it. The American people will not stand for this kind of money spent in Iraq especially if the killing continues--as unfortunately our presence there means it will.

77. You know what would be sweet?
If the UN goes in - and the killing dries up to a trickle.

The UN proves it's there to help. Takes away the no-bid contracts, helps the people with food and water, electricity and security.

And at the end, the new, honest-to-goodness Iraqi government by and for the Iraqi people, tells the world: "George Bush and his fellow criminals destroyed our nation - but the real lovers of democracy, including Germany and France, helped us rebuild it into a country of our own."

That, my friends, would be totally fucking sweet.

79. I just saw John King. I was surprised that he actually DID say this.
He pointed out - "nothing new" in this speech but the budget number" and added - he didn't have anything to say about when they'd be bringing the American troops home, or where the WMDs are, or where Saddam is, or any of that.

I was truly surprised. John King didn't just wax poetic.

When I saw the replay, my first impression was - "is bush sedated?"

89. You'll notice though
he professes support, but always after a qualifier.

"I am disappointed that Bush ___________________, but it took coraige to admit he was a _______________."

Pretty much the text of Biden's speech. It is a subtle, "He's a dick but I support him out of patriotism" type line.

Don't get me wrong. We don't need subtle rhetorical attacks, we need real outrage.

I have noticed if you read between the lines, Biden usually has some pretty good digs -- for whatever it is worth.

paid for by foreign countries and not the United States. Then he said that nearly all of the cost of this war is coming from the U.S. Treasury.

Bush might have been better off trying to sneak the $85 billion through a compliant Republican Congress. This speech may really backfire big time. It may not destroy him directly (but I hope you are right).

Short answer? No. I heard it on Fox right before he started to talk, something around 60 billion for day to day operations and another 20 billion for something else. But who cares? It's just 'paperwork' to the administration now. God only knows how we're going to pay for it...

$87 billion is over $300 for every man woman and child in the country. I wonder when parents should break the news to their young children that they are going to work an extra few years to pay for this.

$87 billion here, $87 billion there, and you are starting to talk about real money.

Again and again and again and again. how does he do it?

Anyone know how much of that 87 billion is going to Haliburton and Bechtel for the "rebuilding" (aka affirmation of American control) of Iraq? Also, how much of it is going to our military?

He put the price tag out for everybody to see, $87 billion.

This at a time when all polls indicate everybody is concerend out the U.S. economy, he wants to spend $87 billion rebuilding another country.

He's fucking toast.

my father, who voted for Bush, just said on the phone that the speech was the final straw for him.Even he's had enough of Bush.

You might be more "whacked" than who you accuse.

Of course most of us knew that already...

67. We've all been so upset with the
body bags coming home and the Iraqi death toll that the frustration has been palpable. All the people out there in freeper land that supported this carnage will be raising hell tomorrow because the war is going to hit their wallet and that's very personal to them. Hell, US kids coming home in body bags or maimed, that's just "the cost of freedom" to them, the Iraqi death toll has been "collateral damage", but by god, mess with their money and I guarantee you, there will be a different tune come tomorrow.

... has gone into this atrocity or how much more will be. Remember, this is nowhere near the actual cost, even ignoring the inevitable overruns.

But hey, he cut taxes on the wealthy. :puke:
